Abolish Poverty, End Suffering aid is providing relief to storm damaged areas of Oklahoma, USA. An initial grant of US$5,000 grant through the American Red Cross offered immediate help providing shelter, food, water, and supplies in affected communities. Additional aid will be directed to individual church families. Your generous contributions make this aid possible.

A series of severe storms hit Oklahoma, including a tornado estimated at an EF5. Several church members suffered property damage, and some members’ homes were completely destroyed. Thank you for your prayers and your offerings to Abolish Poverty, End Suffering. You can give at www.CofChrist.org/give/contribute and on the worldwide ministries side of your mission tithes envelopes. Because of your ongoing generosity, Community of Christ is able to respond as a worldwide church to this crisis in Oklahoma. Read the full news story at www.CofChrist.org/news/2013/may/tornado.asp.

Recommended fall curriculum for children, Of Water and Spirit, will be available by July 1. Materials will guide learners in exploring what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ and how discipleship is lived out in Community of Christ. Because this is such important foundational material based on Community of Christ identity, message, mission, and beliefs, the First Presidency recommends use of this resource for fall curriculum with all children ages 7–11, even if they have already been baptized and confirmed. Materials include a Facilitator Guide and Disciple Journal (one for each student). Get them through Herald House: 1-800-767-8181; www.HeraldHouse.org.

“Peace through All People” is a collective singing video of “Peace, Salaam, Shalom,” written by Emma’s Revolution. This song will be part of Community of Christ’s next hymnal, Community of Christ Sings. It represents more than 75 songs we can sing collectively as a global family. The Community of Christ Hymnal Project sent Major Oak Productions with Joey Williams (international editor for Community of Christ) to record members and friends around the world singing songs from this collection. Watch the unique voices each one of us has to offer in the pursuit of peace at www.CofChrist.org/hymnal/listen.asp.

Community of Christ Sings will be launched at the 2013 Peace Colloquy, October 18–20. Registration will open July 1 at www.CofChrist.org/PeaceColloquy. Each registrant will receive one complimentary Community of Christ Sings pew edition.

Connecting college students with congregations: Do you know of a Community of Christ high school senior that will be starting college this fall or a college student who will be returning to college? If so, please share the student’s name and contact information with the pastor of the congregation closest to the campus the student will attend. If you are not sure how to contact the pastor, please work with your mission center president. Many congregations would like to provide support to Community of Christ students in their area but don’t always know who is there or how to make contact. Thank you for any help you can provide.

New books are available from Community of Christ Seminary Press. The Seminary Press publishes scholarly works of particular interest to the serious student. Always in support of the church’s mission and the pursuit of truth, authors explore a wide range of issues. Their writings evidence and encourage creative thinking and inquiry in the tradition of academic freedom, which welcomes public scrutiny. Authors’ methods and conclusions do not necessarily reflect official positions held by the church, the seminary, or any other church-related institution. Note the healthy tension between serious independent inquiry and a determination to faithfully serve the mission of the church. Every book issued by this press will demonstrate that these impulses don’t contradict each other!

Community of Christ Seminary Press books are available through Herald House: www.HeraldHouse.org; 1-800-767-8181; (816) 521-3015.
