Weekly Picks From the Band
Book of the Week
Chuck Klosterman IV: A Decade of Curious People and Dangerous Ideas is book written by Chuck Klosterman, first published by Scribner in 2006, and is the fourth book by Klosterman. The book consists of three sections: 'Things That Are True', ''Things That Might Be True', and 'Something That Isn't True At All'–the beginning of an unfinished novel written in 2000. This final section is a departure for Klosterman, as it is his first published work of fiction. The main character, Jack, is allegedly based upon Klosterman's personality traits, but the author asserts that the events which occur in the story are completely fictional.
Movie of the Week
Splendor in the Grass, an American movie from 1961, tells a story of sexual repression, love, heartbreak and manic-depression, which the character Deanie suffers from. Written by William Inge, who appears briefly as a Protestant clergyman, the film was directed by Elia Kazan. The film is based on people whom Inge knew while growing up in Kansas in the 1920s. He told the story to director Elia Kazan when they were working on a production of Inge's play The Dark at the Top of the Stairs, in 1957. They agreed that it would make a good film and that they wanted to work together on it. Inge wrote it first as a novel, then as a screenplay.
Album of the Week
The King of Limbs is the eighth studio album by English alternative rock band Radiohead, produced by Nigel Godrich. It was self-released on 18 February 2011 as a download in MP3 and WAV formats. It will be followed by a physical CD and 12" vinyl release on 28 March, and a special "newspaper" edition on 9 May 2011. The name of the album possibly refers to an oak tree in Wiltshire's Savernake Forest, thought to be 1,000 years old.
