Compilation of NAQC Resources and Membership Drive Announcement for 2016/2017!
Dear NAQC members,
We hope that 2016 is off to a good and productive start! We thank  all who renewed their NAQC membership or joined as new members this year. Your membership dues allow us to provide resources, address important new legislative and policy changes and be more flexible as an organization in meeting changing member needs and requests. We hope NAQC’s work in the past year has contributed to your success and we look forward to launching great new products and membership benefits this coming year!  
NAQC’s membership drive for 2016/2017 begins today, on February 26, and I would like to provide you with important membership renewal information , include a brief recap of the highlights from the last year, and  updates on the work ahead

UPDATE ON MEMBERSHIP DRIVE. Please keep the following important membership dates in mind:
Late February  – launch of the membership drive and distribution of invoices
June 30 – last day to renew your membership dues
July 1 – beginning of the 2016/2017 membership year

I would like to thank all of you for your many contributions to NAQC, not only through membership dues but also through the expertise you provide to NAQC projects and the time you make available to serve on working groups, the Advisory Council and the Board. Your participation is paramount to our success!

HIGHLIGHTS OF NAQC WORK. In the past year, NAQC has released a number of resources that we hope will be useful to you:

UPDATES ON WORK AHEAD. The future holds many opportunities and challenges for the quitline community, including important national policy changes like the Affordable Care Act in the U.S. and responding to new tobacco and nicotine products like e-cigarettes.  NAQC is committed to supporting members in their efforts by facilitating dialogue, developing evidence based reports and strategies, offering webinars and other types of technical assistance, and strengthening cessation policy. Based on the feedback we have heard from you at the Conference 2015 and with guidance of the Advisory Council and the Board, NAQC has developed a list of priorities below:

 1. Engage the quitline community in a dialogue on making evidence based quitlines more accessible and more sustainable through implementation of the ACA. We are using this year’s webinar series to get the dialogue underway.
2. Create a Best Practices report on quitline services that provides guidance to the public health and healthcare communities on the key components of quitlines that make them effective in reaching tobacco users and helping them to quit. Integration of technology will be an important part of this report.
3. Synthesize and share a literature and practice review on reaching and treating priority populations via quitlines. This review may be an especially important resource as HUD plans for public housing to go smoke-free nationwide.
4. Continue offering training and technical assistance programs that support:
  • Establishing partnerships between quitlines and health plans/employers;
  • Improving cessation services and coverage for Medicaid members;
  • Creating the capacity among all quitline operators to conduct eReferral with certified EHRs by 2017, and expanding the number of states that offer eReferral to healthcare partners.
