Welcome

Innovation Update is a series of three e-newsletters intended to propel forward the outcomes of the Beyond the 5 A's: Improving Cessation Interventions through Strengthened Training held November 13-15, 2013, and build on the momentum of current efforts by Independent Grants for Learning & Change (IGLC) grantees and others to improve clinical practice and the quality of training and education to healthcare systems and providers to increase quit rates and decrease tobacco use prevalence. Learn more.

Shining a Spotlight on Practice
Every issue of Innovation Update will feature the work, priorities, lessons learned and outcomes of one of the IGLC grantees. In this issue, we shine a light on a project working to support behavioral health providers and Medicaid providers to provide smoking cessation interventions.  Read about it.
An Artifact, Exposed
This section of Innovation Update will explore more deeply elements of an artifact "discovered" during the World CafÈ portion of the pre-conference workshop for Pfizer Independent Grants for Learning & Change (IGLC) grantees held on November 13, 2013.  Background for those who did not participate in the World CafÈ is provided, the artifact and what it represents is described and then, most importantly, several examples from practice are shared to highlight its importance and relevance to our work. In this issue, we explore a Super Bowl ring!  Read about it.
An Eye on the Evidence

This section provides a brief review of recent articles and considers why a particular article/finding may have implications for how we do our work. This time we look at two articles that cover Clinical Practice and Training and Education. Read more.

Community of Practice "Matters" Forum
This final section of the newsletter highlights a common practice-related challenge elevated during the Beyond the 5 A's conference and provides solutions/strategies for addressing the challenge (based on current practice, of course). As a "community of practice," readers are encouraged to share their solutions and strategies to the most recent "matter" on the Beyond the 5 A's online forum. Simply click HERE to visit the forum.
