Congressional Briefing to Support CDC's Tips Campaign and Funding for State Quitlines

Dear Colleagues,

On Tuesday morning, NAQC will participate in a Congressional Briefing hosted by the Trust for America’s Health, in support of the Prevention and Public Health Fund (PPHF). PPHF supports a variety of public health programs including CDC’s national Tips from Former Smokers campaign and its supplemental funding for state quitlines. Since 2012, Congress has invested in these two tobacco cessation activities to help smokers quit. These investments have had a consistent and positive impact on increasing the number of smokers wanting to quit, attempting to quit, and successfully quitting. Based on evaluation research, CDC estimates that between 2012 and 2015 at least 5 million Americans tried to quit smoking cigarettes because of the Tips campaign and at least 400,000 cigarette smokers quit for good. To further leverage the success of this investment, NAQC will encourage Congress to continue allocating funds to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for these important tobacco cessation activities.
