Celebrating the Great American Smokeout 2012!

Greetings!

NAQC would like to wish all of you a Great American Smokeout (GASO) 2012! Below are a number of special reports and activities that have been released today in recognition of GASO:
  • Dr. Howard Koh, Assistant Secretary for Health at U.S. DHHS, announced that in commemoration of the American Cancer Society’s Great American Smokeout, HHS is launching http://www.BeTobaccoFree.gov – a comprehensive website that coordinates access to the best and most up-to-date tobacco-related information from across HHS into a single online location. BeTobaccoFree.gov was built using responsive design, which makes information accessible anywhere, anytime on any platform, from smart phone to tablet to desktop.
  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a new MMWR report today called “Comprehensive Smoke-Free Laws - 50 Largest U.S. Cities, 2000 and 2012”. The report notes that “Significant progress has been achieved since 2000 in expanding comprehensive smoke-free policy coverage in the 50 largest U.S. cities, but 20 cities remain without full protection from secondhand smoke in private workplaces, restaurants and bars.” Analysis shows that 30 of America’s 50 largest cities are now covered by laws that prohibit smoking in all indoor areas of private workplaces, restaurants, and bars. Learn more
  • The American Lung Association will release its fifth annual Helping Smokers Quit: Tobacco Cessation Coverage report on Monday, December 3.  A webinar to discuss the highlights, trends and hot topics described in the report is scheduled for Monday, December 3 at 2 pm EST.  You can register here.
