July 2022
Hello! Thank you once again for signing up to this prayer letter, and for praying for the work here in Eyres Monsell. We’re still excited about what God is wanting to do in this estate – so do please keep praying for us.

The Team

Since the last prayer letter in May, we’ve continued to meet together as a team and have continued to study the book of Ephesians together. Last night, we were in Ephesians 4, and were encouraged by the truth that there is one body, but that Christ has given to that body all the gifts it needs in order to be healthy: and that that includes every one of us with our own individual gifts and passions and skills. All 6 of us are needed here – not just 1 or 2 of us. Which was encouraging to us all.

We’re also currently chatting with a handful of people who are interested in joining us as a team: potentially taking our numbers to 11, and 3 extra children. Please pray for the people thinking about joining us, and for us as a team as we pray about it too. We want to make sensible decisions in the right time – so we need wisdom. And thankfully, James 1 tells us that God loves to give wisdom when we ask for it. So we’re asking for it – and are asking you to pray for it for us too!

On Friday 22nd July, as a team we went to a charity fundraising night for the EMCYP. It was a Bingo night, and there were so many people from the estate there. We had a great time as a team, and had lots of chances to develop friendships with people as a result. We also all won something… except Josh. But he didn’t mind…!

A successful night for nearly all of us...
Please continue to pray for more chances to get into the estate to get to know people here. Pray for us as a team to continue to grow in love for each other and the estate.
Avenue Weekend Away
Back in May it was the Avenue Church Weekend Away, and Andy Prime from Gracemount in Edinburgh was the speaker. He spoke really encouragingly to Avenue Church about their ongoing mission, and to their support for Eyres Monsell. We also took the opportunity to have a prayer meeting for Eyres Monsell, along with a Q&A with Andy about planting in a deprived community which were both really helpful times – so give thanks for that!

Please also pray for our ongoing relationship with Avenue. Particularly for wisdom and patience to navigate my role as it’s split between 2 communities, and how that’s going to look going forward. Prayers for unity and wisdom there please!

James Family
I (Dan) have had lots of chances to share about the work here and preach at several churches around Leicester and the UK. This weekend coming I’m doing the same at a church in Barry, and then a few weeks later one in Poole. Please pray for those times – and if you’re reading this on the back of signing up from one of those churches: thank you! I’m very conscious of our need for prayer and support from people all around the world. Please pray that, in some of the Leicester churches I’m going to be speaking at, there might be people there who would be interested, ready and willing to join our mission in Eyres Monsell.

Give thanks for the Medhurst Ministries conference that Jamie and I went to back in June. You can read more about the work of Medhurst Ministries on their website, and we’re really keen to be a part of the work they’re doing in the UK, so it was really encouraging to be there with them, and to get to know people from churches in similar areas with similar challenges. The Sunday night afterwards we joined Spen Valley Church's Zoom prayer meeting – one of the Medhurst Churches, which was fantastic to be supported by people we’d met the day before. Give thanks for that contact and pray for fruitful partnerships to come from that Network!

On the Estate
Please continue to pray for the friendships and contacts we have on the estate. Jamie and I are having loads of opportunities to get to know people with lots of gospel opportunities too.

In particular, at the start of July, Jamie and I were chatting about how we could develop some of those friendships into Bible-reading, so we texted all of our Monsell contacts and asked if they’d be interested in doing a Bible Study on Friday mornings in September after the school drop-off. If we’re honest, we didn’t expect many people to be keen: but we had 8 people say they were really keen to come! So – that’s something we're planning to do in September: a Bible Study at the centre just next to the school from about 9:00 to 10:30 on Friday mornings! Please pray for that!

Also, over the summer, Avenue is meeting at Rolleston School on the estate - and one of the ladies we've mentioned on here before, B, came and loved it. She had a great chat with Jamie afterwards and is really keen to come while it's still at Rolleston. So please pray for her - that she would be saved and that we'd be ready to disciple her well!

We need your prayers!
Please keep praying for the 3 things we asked last prayer letter:

1) More people to join the team: either Christians joining us on mission or local people who have been saved!

2) Another elder to join the team: ideally an experienced retired elder/pastor who’d love to join us with their wisdom and godliness. Do you know someone who might fit that role? Please get them in touch!

3) For a future female gospel worker. That will need funding on top of the right person for the role, so please pray for that!

We are still convinced that the Lord has ‘many people in this city’, so please keep praying that they’d come to know him themselves soon!
