The benefits of innovation are clear

Higher margins, increased customer loyalty, new sources of income and exciting new projects that make a difference in customers’ lives, or more radical impact with business models that open up new markets. But whilst there is a lot of rhetoric and talk about the need to innovate many don’t know how or where to start, or whether they even have the skills and capabilities to generate new ideas and make them work. This leaves them in a dilemma. I invented a simple methodology that brings these two worlds together – a clear process that helps to deliver the what of innovation.

Give teams a problem to solve, not a solution to implement

Your teams have been running some flavor of Agile for years. You’ve hired product managers, designers and engineers who have a keen interest in the customer. You’ve created small, dedicated, cross-functional teams and given them the tools and workplace facilities to do their best work. You’ve established a shared vocabulary and an organization-wide focus on innovation and agility. And yet, sprint after sprint, month after month teams are rushing to get features out the door.

Make Your Company’s Culture Go Viral

“It’s so exciting that we’ve identified the critical few behaviors that are going to move the needle on our organization’s performance. But — now what?!” asks pretty much every one of my clients, ever. One of the fundamental tenets of evolving organizational culture at the Katzenbach Center — the global institute for organizational culture and leadership with Strategy&, PwC’s strategy consulting business — is to focus on those “critical few” behaviors, or patterns of acting that are tangible, observable, repeatable, and measurable, and will help an organization to achieve its strategic and operational objectives.

We call this phenomenon the corporate “immune system”. In this article, I’ll go more into the depth of what an organization’s immune system is and how it has caused many organizations and industries to self-collapse.

12 Things Mentally Strong People Do That Nobody Else Does

The 5-Hour Rule Used by Bill Gates, Jack Ma and Elon Musk

We recently took a team of innovators from one UAE Government entity, who participated in the internal innovation acceleration program we run in the GCC, on a discovery trip to Silicon Valley and San Francisco. There we had the opportunity to visit a wide variety of companies (i.e. Google, SAP, Palantir, Udacity, Plug and Play, Silicon Foundries, Silicon Valley Bank, Quid, Stanford, San Francisco City Hall, Danish Innovation Center, Facebook).

You’ve no doubt heard a million times that you should exercise. But how many people have suggested that you become more mentally fit? I’m not just talking about doing a crossword puzzle to combat dementia -- I’m talking about becoming mentally strong. When you do, you’ll be better equipped to regulate your thoughts, manage your emotions and boost your productivity. Here are 12 things mentally strong people do.

You just walked in the door from an exhausting day at work. You’re hungry and spent, just wanting to catch your breath for a minute. You grab something to eat and then veg out in front of the TV. Next thing you know, you've just binge-watched five episodes of "Jessica Jones." While that’s OK occasionally -- we all need ways to decompress and shut down -- this isn’t a healthy habit.
