Fifty-two works have been shortlisted for Singapore’s top literary award. They will be contesting in 12 categories across the three genres of Poetry, Fiction and Creative Nonfiction and four languages of Chinese, English, Malay and Tamil.
The shortlisted writers include Singapore's leading figures Edwin Thumboo, Suratman Markasan, 尤今(You Jin); former winners Amanda Lee Koe, 谢裕民(Chia Joo Ming), Sithuraj Ponraj, as well as first-time shortlisted writers Jamal Ismail, Jing-Jing Lee, Teo You Yenn, V. Hemalatha and 黄凯德 (Wong Koi Tet).
The theme of this year’s SLP #WhyWeWrite examines what compels writers to write, and why SLP is more relevant than ever before in these challenging times.
