Embracing the Weird: Writing Speculative Fiction

This holiday season, learn something different and try your hand at speculative fiction! This workshop is led by speculative fiction writer Victor Fernando R. Ocampo, who is the award-winning author of the Romeo Forbes Children's Story Award and who was shortlisted for the International Rubery Book Award. Uncover unique ways of approaching writing to expand your creativity. This workshop is recommended for budding writers aged 13 to 16.

Nasi Lemak, kiasu, shiok, paiseh— these are some phrases particular to Singapore identity. Every culture possesses linguistic nuances that are unique. How do translators convey these nuances from the original work into something audiences will understand without losing the essence of the original story? Find out at this author-translator-editor discussion where author Zhang Ling, translator Shelly Bryant and Amazon Crossing editor Liza Darnton will share their experience working on A Single Swallow.

• In January: The Final Steps: Literary Translation Workshop is a course for emerging translators where you will be taken through the final stages of a translation process and be on your way to working with international publishers!
• In April: Do you have ideas for a picture book floating in your head? Catch up with illustrator Debasmita Dasgupta and Eva Wong Nava, award-winning children's book author in Picture Book Matters. They will share tips from the publishing industry, and how you can ideate, refine and present pitch-ready materials!
• In June: Step into the world of storytelling with accomplished storyteller Sheila Wee in Introduction to Storytelling I & II and gain a firm grounding in storytelling skills!
