Today is Thursday, October 25, 2018
Dear Pilgrim Friends and Members,
We invite people of faith and conscience to take part in a weekly interfaith prayer vigil to be held outside of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field office at 925 Keynote Circle, Brooklyn Heights. Our goal is to unite and amplify many faith voices calling for compassion and justice to guide the actions of ICE and to bear witness to ICE-imposed injustices and human rights violations taking place in our communities. We welcome non-partisan signage that lifts up values of justice, peace, compassion and hospitality to the immigrant. You can help us to stand up with and for our immigrant neighbors with your “ministry of presence.” If you are able, please come to this prayer vigil, led by rotating faith leadership every Thursday from 4pm to 4:45 p.m.
Pastor Kelly is out of the office until Tuesday, October 30. For this Reformation Sunday, we welcome Jim McPeak who will share a monologue in the person of Martin Luther.
Be sure to join us!
Gospel Music Brunch November 18
Gospel music has a way of taking you to another place. Each note can elevate you to a place where the jagged edges of life’s most persistent problems are somehow softened. The lyrics of gospel music acknowledge the frustrations and the hardships of life. More importantly, they promise that God will see you through it all.
So, bring your appetite for gospel music to church on Sunday, November 18. And bring your appetite for brunch with you as well! We will combine gospel music and brunch into a Gospel Brunch held in Fellowship Hall. After dishing up a plate of delicious egg strata, we will join with each other at table. Pastor Kelly will lead us in worship. We will be assisted in our worship by the strains of gospel music sung by the Wright Family Singers.
Feel free to invite family and friends to this special worship service. Perhaps you have someone in your life who would enjoy this unique, less-formal church experience. Promotional cards are available for you on the usher’s table to assist in spreading the word.
An egg dish will be provided. Please bring bread, pastries, bagels or a fruit salad to share.

New and returning folks, WELCOME! Come for a pizza & salad dinner with fellowship. We’ll share an overview of Pilgrim’s Called to Care ministries of pastoral visitation, phone calls and written notes and important updates and information related to our pastoral care work.

Charlie Mosbrook concert for sanctuary

For over 25 years, award-winning songwriter Charlie Mosbrook has been dedicated to the performance, presentation, and preservation of original and traditional folk music. and many others. Proceeds will assist Pilgrim’s sanctuary guest Eulogio
and his family with director support for necessities such as utilities and food. Free parking, refreshments available, fully accessible. Please share on social media!
Childcare & Nursery Update
This year, we recognized a change in worship. Families with infants and toddlers, when they came to Pilgrim, were increasingly bringing their children with them to worship and utilizing the Children’s Corner rather than Pilgrim’s Nursery Room. In addition to the infrequency of families using the Nursery this year, we have had a difficult time keeping enough background-checked and trained volunteer helpers to rotate in the Nursery (mandated by Pilgrim’s Safe Church Policy guiding ministry with minors). With these factors in mind, beginning in November we will no longer have a staffed Nursery, but that room will continue to be available to families who wish to use it for diaper changes or other family needs. We are deeply grateful to Michelle Sokol for having served as Pilgrim’s Nursery Attendant on Sunday mornings for the past two years, and also to the volunteer support of Pat Mayer, Ellen Mayer, Alice Willis and others in previous years who have assisted. If you would like to join us in expressing gratitude to Michelle, you may leave a note or card in Pilgrim’s office this month and we will collect and share them with her.
Seeking Sunday School Teachers
We have a small but wonderful group of children at Pilgrim, and depend on caring adult church members to teach and share activities with them on Sundays (after Passing of the Peace) on a rotating basis, once or twice monthly as preferred. Teaching experience a bonus, background check with Safe Church Policy orientation needed, love of children a must! Please see Halldor Gudmundsson or Xander Gallagher.
Christianity 101: Introduction & Refresher
