Association of Neighbors(WeCAN) 
is the Registered Neighborhood Organization (RNO) for the neighbors who live, work, or own property in the West Colfax neighborhood.
WeCAN meets the second Tuesday of every month, 6:00pm, in the main hall of the Confluence Ministries building, 1400 Quitman Street.

Highlights from the October West Colfax Clean Up Day with
Extreme Community Makeover
Dear Friends and Neighbors, 

A huge THANK YOU to all the volunteers that came out for our October West Colfax Clean Up Day! We're already looking forward to the next Clean Up Day in May 2018.

WeCAN has been partnering with Extreme Community Makeover and Confluence Ministries for over five years now to help beautify our West Colfax neighborhood twice a year. Extreme Community Makeover is a movement of volunteers working in partnership with residents of specific Denver neighborhoods to complete home and neighborhood improvement projects; include graffiti removal, landscaping, painting, yard work, or other residential outdoor projects .

You are also invited to the upcoming Art is in the Air event hosted by ECM on Friday, November 10 at 7:00 pm at the Artwork Network gallery (878 Santa Fe Drive). This event is the annual fundraiser for Extreme Community Makeover, but also one of their most fun events of the year! Enjoy appetizers, drinks, and desserts, along with live art and music, while checking out the items available in the raffle, silent, and live auctions. Tickets are $30 if purchased by November 3, 7:00pm, $40 after that time, get your tickets here –

Girls Inc. of Metro Denver & Strong, Smart & Bold Beans 
Girls Inc. of Metro Denver, right here in the West Colfax neighborhood at 1499 Julian St., will be at our November 14 meeting. Sophie Bieluczyk, Manager of Development will share programming at Girls Inc. and the newest holiday catalog and new location of Strong, Smart & Bold Beans to STEAM on the Platte.

Bienvenidos Food Bank
Bienvenidos Food Bank has served Denver for four decades and operates a mobile pantry in the West Colfax neighborhood at the VFW building at 4747 W. Colfax Ave. Greg Pratt, Director at Bienvenidos, will be at the November 14 meeting to share about the work they do.

Colorado House District 4 Candidate Forum
The West Colfax neighborhood is part of Colorado House District 4, currently represented by Dan Pabon. In June 2018 primaries will be held for the candidates running for the HD4 seat. November 14 will be an opportunity to hear from the candidates and ask questions. House District 4 candidates include Amy BeatieEd Britt, and Michael Kiley.

Conversations in the Community with Councilman Rafael Espinoza

City Council District 1 Representative, Rafael Espinoza, hosts several Conversations in the Community every month. This is an opportunity to chat and ask questions of one of the West Colfax Representatives. Here is the schedule for November:

Friday, November 3: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. @Common Grounds Coffeehouse, 2139 W 44th Ave.

Friday, November 17: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. @Tenn Street Coffee, 4418 Tennyson St.

The West Colfax neighborhood is represented by Councilman Espinoza in District 1 and Councilman Lopez in District 3. Please reference the map to see who your Denver City Council Representative is!

Brown is the new GREEN! Keep your fall leaves out of the landfill by composting them through Denver Recycles’ annual LeafDrop program.

By participating in the LeafDrop program, Denver residents decrease their environmental impact, help to keep our streets clean, and save space in the landfill. Leaves collected during LeafDrop will be commercially composted, and the final compost product will be sold to Denver residents at Denver Recycles’ annual Mulch Giveaway & Compost Sale in early May 2018. By participating in the LeafDrop program, you can save space in the landfill, decrease your environmental impact, and help keep our streets clean.

Ballots Are Due November 7 by 7:00pm

Drive-Through Ballot Drop-Off locations are now open! Be sure to drop yours off at one of the Denver Elections Division locations city-wide. For locations and hours check or see the instructions in your ballot envelopes. The 24-Hour Ballot Drop-Off Box closest to the West Colfax neighborhood is at the Denver Human Services building, 1200 N. Federal Blvd.

Denver's 80x50 Climate Goal Survey

In December of 2015, the Department of Environmental Health released an updated Climate Action Plan. As part of that plan, Mayor Michael B. Hancock announced Denver’s goal of reducing community Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions 80 percent below 2005 levels by the year 2050 (80 x 50). 

Those who live and/or work in Denver are encouraged to provide input on the 80x50 Climate Goal survey. The survey results will provide additional considerations to strategies, targets and visions developed by the 80x50 Climate Goal Stakeholders.
