On the Ballot: Ordinance 300, Public Consumption of Marijuana

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Election season is upon us and one of the lesser-known boxes on the ballot this year is Ordinance 300. This ordinance proposes that Denver residents approve the public use of marijuana in specially permitted locations. Although Ordinance 300 does specify that the permitted locations cannot be within 1000 feet of a school, there are few other regulatory fail safes put into place. For example, the ordinance states that an eligible neighborhood organization may approve or object to the issuance of a permit. However, a registered neighborhood organization such as WeCAN would not get notice that an application has been filed. This is a drastic departure from the current way that liquor and marijuana licenses are currently granted in the city of Denver. We encourage you to read the summary of Ordinance 300 contained in your blue book and make an informed decision.  If you have any further questions, please contact the office of Councilman Paul Lopez at 720-337-3333.

Kind Regards,

Nadia Hafeez Patrick & Leah Rounds
WeCAN Co-Presidents
