Thank you Tree Planting volunteers! WeCAN partnered with The Park People and Denver Digs Trees to bring this annual event back to West Colfax. We had a beautiful morning with neighbors and beautifying Denver. Special thanks to Brew Culture Coffee for providing meeting space and the Alamo Drafthouse Denver for sending a crew to join the WeCAN team!

May 14 General Meeting
WeCAN meets the second Tuesday of every month (January-May, August-November), 6:00-7:00pm in the Main Hall of the Confluence Ministries Building at 1400 Quitman St. Here is a glimpse at this month's General Meeting.

6:00pm: Denver Police District 1 Community Resource Officer, Bob Anderson, and the Northwest Denver Public Safety Resource Center begins our meetings by sharing recent crime statistics, crime prevention tips, and is available to answer all your questions and concerns.
6:05pm: Denver Animal Protection will present on the laws and resources available regarding pets in the community.
6:10pm: Nicole Leon, from Denver’s Sexual Assault Interagency Council and Danielle Robinson, from the Denver District Attorney’s Office, will be presenting on Denver’s response to sexual assault, including Denver’s Start by Believing campaign.
6:25pm: Christina Contreras , of the West Denver Renaissance Collaborative (WDRC) will present on Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs), take your questions, and share information on how to join the WCRD leadership committee. WDRC will be leading outreach on redevelopment planning effort in 2019, continuing to focus on minimizing displacement, AND will be working closely with CPD on the coming West Denver neighborhood planning initiative.
6:40pm: Andrew Halpern, from Mile High Youth Corp will present on different programming and sustainability projects the non-profit is currently focusing on.
6:45: Sprout City Farms is a local urban agriculture nonprofit with a community garden, Mountair Park Community Farm, located at 13th and Depew. Come to learn about the farm and how to get involved.
WeCAN Announcements
6:50pm: Bruce O'Donnell of Starboard Realty Group will present on the latest plans for a rezone request at 17th Ave. & Sheridan St. Learn about the current plans for this block and the mediation process it has gone through with surrounding neighbors. A few West Colfax neighbors living near the project will also be there to share their support and concerns. There will be time for Q&A on this project as it moves forward.

West Colfax Clean-up Day:
Join the WeCAN Team!
Join with WeCAN and Extreme Community Makeover at the next West Colfax Clean-up Day!
When: Saturday, June 1, 9:00 AM
Where: Meet at Confluence Ministries, 1400 Quitman St.
This is a great way to partner with your neighbors to:
- complete exterior home repair or improvement projects for a neighbor in need
- clean up trash on the streets and alleys
- remove graffiti
- meet neighbors and make connections
Lunch is provided. Projects are generally completed by 4PM, but you can come for a half day. Children of all ages are welcome to come with an adult willing to work with and supervise them.

Voting Recap from last month: 17th & Meade

Thank you neighbors for being a part of the process and taking the time to learn about and add your voice to the rezone proposal for the property at 17th & Meade. There were 253 valid votes, 190 were in opposition to the proposed development (75.1%), 2.3% voted to take no stance, and 22.1% were in support.
WeCAN will be writing a letter of opposition to this proposal, which will be presented at the Denver City and County Public Hearing; day and time to be determined and will be posted on our Events Calendar page.

Neighbors are also encouraged to write letters individually in support or opposition to this project to Denver City Council or attend the Public Hearing.
