Bringing Neighbors Together to Build Community

Dear Friends and Neighbors,

Have you seen the "Voices" wind chimes sound installation along Lakewood Gulch? West Colfax neighbor and artist, Michael McKee, in partnership with the West Colfax Association of Neighbors, brought this project to the neighborhood. The chimes are made of wood, steel cable, and aluminum tubing. Single note wind chimes are spread throughout Lakewood Dry Gulch Park between Federal and Sheridan Boulevards in Denver. Structures are attached to pedestrian bridges and disc golf tee boxes throughout the transportation corridor, creating an immersive sound experience as pedestrians and cyclist move through the space.

Installed on December 16, 2018, and up through June 15, 2019, the single note chimes are not pitched in conventional harmony and therefore encourage patience and careful listening. The project was funded through Denver Arts & Venues P.S. You Are Here Grant.

Kind Regards,

Leah Rounds & Jessica Dominguez

We love our furry neighbors!
Let's find space in West Colfax for them (and us) to play!

Hi neighbors. As loving dog owners, Cindy Gallard (WeCAN Treasurer) and I (Megan Yonke, WeCAN Vice President) would love to have an innovative dog park within walking distance. We believe we're not alone. If you agree, join us to help plan. It is a perfect time for us to propose new ideas, given the Denveright planning process, which includes parks and recreation. While we love our on-leash trails at Sloan's Lake Park and the Lakewood Gulch, we would doubly love an off-leash option, somewhere where we humans could also get exercise and get to know one another better.

Interested in joining us? We will meet to brainstorm ideas at Brew Culture Coffee (3620 W. Colfax Ave.) from 6:00 - 7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 19th. Please let us know if that day/time does not work for you at megan@wecandenver.org. This will likely be the first meeting of many. Thanks!  Megan and Cindy
