Meet the Cast of Lauren Gunderson's
Silent Sky

Running March 10th – 25th!

At Harvard Observatory at the turn of the 20th century, Henrietta Leavitt joins a group of women tasked with charting the heavens without being allowed to touch a telescope. Despite restrictions placed on her because of her sex, Henri devotes her life to the study of celestial bodies just out of reach, balancing the needs of love and family close at hand. Inspired by the real-life woman whose work allowed astronomers to measure the distance of faraway galaxies, Lauren Gunderson's melodious, evocative Silent Sky challenges how we explore our universe by revealing the music of the stars.

Erin Eva Butcher as
Henrietta Leavitt

Audiences will remember Erin from her heart-rending portrayal of Grace Fryer in Radium Girls. She returns to Flat Earth in the role of Henrietta Leavitt, a brilliant and dedicated astronomer, curious about finding our place in the universe. Erin is also the Artistic Director of Maiden Phoenix Theatre Company, a Boston-based theatre company committed to telling stories about women.
Brenna Sweet as
Margaret Leavitt

A newcomer to the Flat Earth stage, Brenna plays Henri's devoted sister, Margaret, a force that expounds the need for a balance between family and the work among the stars. Brenna was last seen in Company One's Boston Theatre Marathon. She is also an Actor/ Facilitator for True to Life Training, touring camps, colleges, and Universities teaching communication skills.
Juliet Bowler as
Williamina Fleming

A Flat Earth company member and award-winning actress, Juliet appears as Williamina Fleming, the first Harvard Computer, and smart as a whip to boot. Juliet's previous Flat Earth credits include The Pillowman and Rocket Man, and she'll be directing The Taming, a political farce being performed on Inauguration Day, and June's production of Fat Pig.
Cassandra Meyer as
Annie Jump Cannon

Flat Earth is thrilled to have Cassandra back on the stage, after she appeared as Abel Znorko in the creatively staged Enigma Variations. In Silent Sky, she takes on the role of Annie Jump Cannon, the immensely capable, no-nonsense leader of the Harvard Computers, who also developed the star classification system still used today.
Marcus Hunter as
Peter Shaw

Marcus makes his Flat Earth debut as Peter Shaw, the head astronomer's apprentice and Henri's rather uncertain love interest who similarly wants a life that society hasn't chosen. Marcus was recently seen in Peter and the Starcatcher with Cape Repertory Theatre, and From The Sea to Somewhere Else, which will be opening on the New York Fringe in summer 2017.
Dori Robinson

Heading the team of intrepid astronomers is Dori Robinson, an educator, director, dramaturg and playwright. Dori is also the Director of Education for Stoneham Theatre, with whom she just finished directing a production of James and the Giant Peach with their Advanced Young Company Ensemble. She would like cast and audience alike to consider Henri's question "Where are we?"

Inauguration Day Staged Reading:
The Taming

Join Flat Earth Theatre and dozens of other theatre companies nationwide for Silent Sky playwright Lauren Gunderson’s Inauguration Day Project. We’ll be hosting a staged reading of Gunderson’s feminist political farce The Taming: a pantsless hostage situation that nods to Shakespeare’s Taming of the Shrew but aspires to rock the foundations of American Constitutional Government.

This event is FREE and open to the public, but audience members can make an optional donation to benefit BAGLY, the Boston Alliance of Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Youth.
