Grand opening of Scholars Lab with inaugural Faculty Publication Celebration

Please join us in the Scholars Lab for the inaugural Faculty Publication Celebration on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 4-5 p.m., with remarks starting at 4:15 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. The Scholars Lab is on the library’s third floor.

The Office of the Provost and the Brown Library invite you to this event honoring our colleagues’ scholarly achievements. We will recognize scholarly authorship, illustrations, editorial work and other published contributions, as well as artistic performances and exhibits by the ACU faculty from the past academic year.

At the same time, we will celebrate the grand opening of the library’s new Scholars Lab,  a digital scholarship center dedicated to supporting computer-enabled research and scholarly communications in all academic disciplines.

ACU students design library tables

In an effort to newly furnish the new Library Union and promote individual and small-group study, ACU interior design students volunteered their time to design a table to support comfortable collaboration and focused productivity.

Sophomores Andrea Shone, Arleth Alvarez, Liz Wong, Madison Meenan, Marilyn Salazar, Myra Castillo, Sydney Dawson and Taihja Tribble worked in two teams to complete the project, and now consider Brown Library their first client.

The library selected the Sled Table to furnish five large work surfaces in the Library Union. “It is rewarding to see tables situated on the third floor of the library that our team designed, and students using them for study,” said Shone, a team leader on the project. “The table project was an eye-opening experience,” said team leader Meenan. “It was great to work with a client for the first time, sharing ideas and collaborating to develop a meaningful product.”
