Coronavirus Disrupts U.S. Court System (The Wall Street Journal) “The new coronavirus is causing a wave of disruptions in the U.S. justice system, with state and federal courts across the country suspending trials and other legal proceedings to help contain the pandemic.

From Maine to Alaska, federal and state courts have temporarily or indefinitely suspended new jury trials for criminal and civil cases. Some big-city court systems took similar measures on their own, with trials suspended in Los Angeles County, Dallas County and Washington, D.C.

New York state halted the empaneling of grand juries, potentially disrupting the work of local prosecutors. The Supreme Court postponed oral arguments for the first time since the Spanish Flu pandemic a century ago.”
