Thanks for taking the time to keep up with Goat Milk Stuff
! The newsletter special for this month is free shipping with a $50 minimum order (details are at the end of the newsletter).
Here's what is new this May…
Limited Edition Soaps
The limited edition soap scents for this month are Strawberries and Champagne, Nag Champa, Confetti, and Black Cherry Grape.
Confetti is a special mix that we have never tried before. While trying to come up with a name for it, some people detected tropical scents, while some smelled spices. Since it is a very complex scent, confetti seemed like a good name. Black Cherry Grape smells of a variety of fruits that almost gives it a juicy smell. Nag Champa is a more masculine scent with a hint of baby powder.
We also have limited quantities of Cranberry, Daffodil, Kool Koala, Red Clover Tea, and Spearmint Lime, available while supplies last. Emery's Flower Garden, Dessert Tray, and Perfume Counter are currently marked down to $5 until they're sold out.
You can buy 9 and get 1 free with most of these limited edition scents.
Almond and Oatmeal Milk & Honey Shampoo
While making a batch of shampoo bars, we accidentally added some extra olive oil. We decided to take that batch and make a few different scents. For a limited time we have shampoo bars available in Almond and OMH. Let us know what you think of them!
Mother's Day Gift Pack
Happy Mother's Day to everyone! We've made a special gift pack available for you to give the special ladies in your life. This Mother's Day gift pack includes 1 bar of Strawberries and Champagne soap, 1 Almond lotion stick (original formula), and 1 Vanilla lip balm (original formula) in a pink organza bag. We already have these put together and can't change the scents or formulas. These are discounted to $15.
If you want to customize a gift pack by choosing different scents, we do have our Beauty Packs available for $18 each.
Mother's Day Shipping
Mother's Day falls on May 10th this year. Orders placed by midnight on Tuesday 5/5/15 are guaranteed to ship out on Wednesday 5/6/15. If you pay at least $6.50 in shipping, your order will ship priority mail and if the post office does its part, your order will arrive by the Saturday (5/9/15) before Mother's Day.
Mother's Day Song
If you're fairly new to Goat Milk Stuff, you may have missed the Mother's Day song the children performed for me several years ago. It starts out a little off-key, but they quickly get much better!
I can't believe how little everyone was!
The construction on our new building is making excellent progress! All of the wallboard is up and they're working on painting now. The first room that will be finished is our candy kitchen because we are already approved to sell our goat milk candies - such as fudge and caramels. I have a LARGE supply of certified GMO free sugar just waiting for the candy kitchen to be finished. Emery (our chief candy maker) is super excited to start experimenting on a large-scale basis and making his goodies available. We're expecting to start working in the candy kitchen some time in May, so be prepared to start seeing candy on the website toward the end of the month. We'll announce it all in the June newsletter or a special newsletter if needed.
The other kitchen going into the new building is our cheese kitchen. We have a lot of work to do toward getting approval and certifications to be able to sell our cheese. I'm really hoping to be able to offer some on a limited basis toward the end of 2015. But it may not be until 2016 if things take longer than I hope (unfortunately, they often do).
We're hoping that all of you are as excited about the upcoming candy and cheese as we are. We've kept 26 doelings so that we can increase the herd and have enough milk to make lots and LOTS of cheese. This is a big commitment for us both financially and in terms of our time, but (as we always do when we have big decisions to make) we held a family meeting (actually multiple meetings), prayed a lot about it, and felt it was a risk God wanted us to take.
We really appreciate your support as we move into this new endeavor. It is a super scary/exciting time for us and we wanted to thank all of you who are praying for us as we try to fulfill the vision we've always had for Goat Milk Stuff - a wide range of products all made with goat milk!
Retail Room Wednesday Hours
We've been experimenting with hours for our retail store. We'd like to make as many hours available as possible, while still being able to enjoy our family life. We've changed our Wednesday hours so that we can now enjoy family dinners together on Wednesdays. Instead of being open til 7pm on Wednesdays, we will now close at 6pm. Thanks for understanding!
The Goat Milk Stuff Blog
You can learn about the Jonas family, the things we say, the farm, the goats, and our products on our blog. Here are some of the latest blog posts:
Our new farm in Scottsburg contains a section of much neglected woods. Whenever our work load and the weather cooperates, we spend time cleaning up the woods. There are many, many dead trees in there that are fairly dangerous. In his "spare time", Jim has been working on taking them down with the chainsaw.
The children then remove the firewood and stack it up (look at the biceps on Jade!)
All the branches get put into piles.
Some day we'd love to get a large chipper/shredder (we have a small one but it is too small to handle what we have). The goats have been LOVING all of this work. They "attack" all of the downed trees and eat any of the surviving greenery and as much of the bark as they can.
And of course, nothing beats climbing on fallen trees!
We're working on creating an open space for people who tour our farm
to enjoy some time in the woods where they can watch the goats and enjoy the fresh air.
At some point, we'd also love to have a walking trail available for visitors as well. It's all part of the long-term plans because cleaning out the woods can only be done when all the other farm work is finished.
Other than working in the woods, April was a busy month in terms of birthdays. Jim shares a birthday with Thomas Jefferson on April 13th.
