Dear Bay Scholars Investor,

We are proud to announce that Bay Scholars will host its 9th Annual Giving Thanks by Giving Back Luncheon on Friday, November 18th, 2022, at the Julia Morgan Ballroom in San Francisco. Our featured guest speaker will be Dr. Michael Drake, President of University of California’s world-renowned system of ten university campuses, five medical centers, and three nationally affiliated labs.

Please join us as a sponsor for this exciting and rewarding event. It is our steadfast mission to close the opportunity and accessibility gaps that unjustly stand in the way of so many worthy young people throughout the Bay Area. Your sponsorship will help support an incredible positive difference in the lives of our Bay Scholars. For more information and to become a sponsor at this year's luncheon, please click here.

In gratitude,

Featured Guest Speaker
We're thrilled to announce our Featured Guest Speaker at this year's Giving Thanks by Giving Back Luncheon: Michael V. Drake, M.D.

In a recent interview, Dr. Drake discussed the connection between education and access to health care: “Throughout my career, we’ve seen unacceptable disparities in health care access and health care outcomes that really plague our nation . . . The work of the university is meant to create the opportunities that uplift our communities more broadly and as those things work, the public health of the people we serve improves as well.”
"A First Year Full of Promise"

Partner School Spotlight
Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory is a Bay Scholars Founding Partner School and has served nearly 200 Bay Scholars in the last 14 years! Meet one of them, NFL player Keith Ismael, in our Alumni Spotlight below.
Dr. Melinda Skrade, President of SHC:
"Two years after the inception of the city of San Francisco, the Daughters of Charity joined by the Christian Brothers answered the call to serve the people of our community through Lasallian Vincentian education. Though they did not fully realize the impact of their mission at that time, today we celebrate the great outcomes of such vision and perseverance 170 years later!"
"Every student at our innovative Catholic high school has a wealth of talent to bring to the community and we aim to nurture and direct these talents toward a successful and productive life. SHC’s commitment to rigorous academics and social justice helps mold students into hardworking, thoughtful and altruistic adults." Read more . . .
Alumni Spotlight: Keith Ismael
After graduating from Sacred Heart Cathedral in 2016, Keith attended San Diego State University where he earned his degree in three years. He was also a 3-year starter for the SDSU Aztecs and currently plays center for the Washington Commanders!
Supporter Spotlight: UC Scout
UC Scout’s mission is to reach out to educationally disadvantaged students across the state, raising achievement levels and closing achievement gaps between groups of students.
Ehren Koepf (Executive Director, UC Scout):
"As a University of California program, UC Scout is proud to support Bay Scholar's mission by providing scholarships for any of our 65 A-G or 26 AP College Board-approved courses in the fully accredited On-Demand plan. On-Demand courses not only align with California academic standards but also support students in meeting graduation, CSU, and UC admissions requirements. Through this partnership, Bay Scholars students have begun their scholarship course in the 2022 summer term. In the 2020-21 academic year, UC Scout supported over 24,000 students in the Basic, Plus, and On-Demand plans."
Steve Pezzola (President, Salesian College Prep): "We are very happy to start the relationship of UC Scout that Bay Scholars made available to us. So far, Bay Scholars students have signed up for courses including Health and Medicine: EMT; Law and Society; Economics; and Studio Art 3D Design. It adds a depth and breadth of curriculum for our students. It is an exciting opportunity and another great example of Bay Scholars working with Salesian to help students be successful."
