Gen Con Announces Official 2016 Charity Partner
Gen Con has selected The PourHouse as its Charity Partner for 2016. Each year, Gen Con partners with one charity, local to Indianapolis, hosting events intended to create donations for the partner organization. Opened in 2004, The PourHouse provides street outreach and peer advocacy for individuals experiencing homelessness in Indianapolis. You can read more about this partnership through Gen Con's Charity Page or via the official press release.
“Gen Con gamers have found a way to extend their creative reach into the streets of their host city, and The PourHouse is honored to have been chosen as the Official Charity Partner of Gen Con 2016”, said Andrea De Mink, Executive Director of The PourHouse. “Your generosity will provide opportunities for housing, healthcare, and restoration of lives.”
Last year, Gen Con’s programming generated more than $40,000 for the convention’s 2015 Charity Partner, The Julian Center. Since moving its convention to Indianapolis, Gen Con has raised more than $200,000 for local charities.

Reminder: Badge and Housing Registration Opens Next Week
If you missed the prior announcements, Badge Pre-Registration will begin on January 22 at noon (Eastern) with Hotel Registration starting two days later at noon (Eastern) on Sunday, January 24. A valid 2016 badge is required to take part in housing registration. As mentioned last week, Gen Con again will randomize each customer's access to the Gen Con Housing Portal to book lodging. If you have questions about housing, you can get them answered at the Housing Q&A forum page or by emailing email@example.com.
It is important to note that demand for downtown hotel rooms vastly outstrips the available supply. Not everyone interested in downtown housing will have access to these rooms. Suburban housing inventory typically is available throughout the convention, however.
When you participate in Housing Registration, you will need to go the "My Housing" page located on gencon.com under your username after you sign-in. When housing registration opens at noon (Eastern), you will be assigned a random access time, if you have purchased a 2016 badge. When your countdown time expires, your page will refresh and provide you with a button to "Make Reservations." Housing registration countdown times may last up to three hours. Once you are granted randomized access, you can book your housing from the remaining choices.
Here are some important notes about booking your 2016 reservation:
- Nightly minimum stays are in effect for all downtown hotel properties. Attendees must book their room for three consecutive nights, including Saturday, August 6.
- Call Center assistance only will be provided on opening day to those booking ADA compliant rooms. Those needing ADA lodging may call 317-688-1323 to book their rooms.
- Badge purchasers are allowed to book one room for every 1-2 badges purchased. Reservations are booked one-at-a-time, in real-time.
A listing of Gen Con 2016 badge options and prices are available at the Badge Information page
. Pre-Registration will close on June 19, 2016 at 11:59 pm (Eastern). Attendees should purchase their badge early to take advantage of Pre-Registration sale prices and shipping options. Gen Con has discounted Pre-Registration prices to help encourage earlier commitment, which will help the convention better plan attendance and activities for the 2016 show.
Specific Badge Type and Housing Questions
The bulk of badges purchased will be traditional 4-Day badges, and those badge purchasers should proceed with the housing information above. However, if you intend to participate in Gen Con 2016 with a different badge type, Gen Con has some specific reminders and information for those attendees.
Family Fun Day- The Family Fun program has exploded in popularity over the past several years with this year's Family Fun Day taking place on Sunday, August 7. Family Fun badges may be purchased when Badge Pre-Registration opens. A family of four may attend the show for only $45, a tremendous savings from standard badge prices. Children under age 8 receive free admission with a Child Wristband. If you want to attend Family Fun Day, please check out this webpage with more detailed information. In particular, please review the method for adding family members to your account. This is the most frequently asked question for Family Fun badge purchasers.
Press Badges- Gen Con will open Press Applications with Badge Pre-Registration. The application will be found under the "Press" heading of Gen Con's website. Approved press will receive a complementary badge, but are expected to cover the show as a member of the media. The Press Management team will expedite the approval process, for all those that apply for press by the evening of January 23. Typically, press approvals take seven days or less.
This expedited approval process should ensure access to the Housing Registration site for all those with an approved Press badge. If you are put on the Press Wait List or denied, you should purchase a 4-Day badge and book housing as a standard attendee. If added to the Press list at a later date, your 4-Day badge will be refunded. Given the sizable increase in 2015 applications and limited space for press, Gen Con will approve a smaller percentage of press than in prior years. To look at the media guidelines for press attendees, you can go to this policy page. If you have further questions, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
EO/GM Badges- The Events team will assign these badges later in 2016. Those needing housing should purchase a 4-Day badge and book their housing as normal. Then, later in the year, the Events team will provide further information on reimbursements.
Exhibitor Badges- Information on Exhibitor badges is given to companies upon their acceptance in the system. Gen Con's Sales & Marketing team will send information on the Exhibitor housing process directly those to which it applies. If you are an exhibitor that needs further information, please email email@example.com
Volunteer Badges- Apprentices and 16-and-32-hour Pages will be reimbursed for their badges after the show and successful completion of their hourly commitments. Gen Con will review volunteer applications over the next few months, contacting and scheduling interested parties after Event Registration opens. Volunteers needing housing should book their lodging as a 4-Day attendee. If you have questions, you can learn more at the Volunteer webpage.
Trade Day Badges- This badge type requires additional approval, as the programming is only open to retailers, distributors, educators, student teachers, and librarians. However, you can book housing while you wait for your approval. More information on Trade Day can be found at this page.
