 Embracing Change

October is often a time when we see a lot of changes here in St. Petersburg. At some point, the weather will begin cooling down, the rains will slow and become less frequent and our "season" will begin. As the tourists and seasonal residents contribute to the activity all around us, change is evident everywhere we turn. I drove east on Second Avenue yesterday and saw what was left of the inverted pyramid that used to be our pier only to turn onto Beach drive and see the construction vehicles building new condos just a few blocks away.

Remember to breathe as you embrace the changes that will inevitably happen in your life. Whether the changes are good or bad, change brings stress. Learning to handle stress in healthy ways like exercise, meditation, creative pursuits, or time with close friends can make whatever change you face an opportunity for growth and progress. Don't forget that your BPW sisters are a great resource for managing change.

Join us, and support us, in our endeavor to discover points of view relevant to our mission: to achieve equity for all women in the workplace through advocacy, education and information.

Proposed Bylaws Change

Our second meeting in October (10/15) will include a vote by all members in good standing on a proposed change to our bylaws regarding the time period between lapsed dues and removal from our membership roles. Currently, members have a grace period of 90 days after their due date to renew their membership and still appear on our member rosterr. However, BPW/FL voted this summer at our state conference in Marathon to reduce this time period to 60 days. To achieve consistency and align with our BPW/FL policies, the EC is proposing that BPW/St. Petersburg-Pinellas reduce it's grace period to be in alignment with BPW/FL.
