What are you doing on Thursday night? Oh, you have plans? Cancel them. Sorry, but the only component of your Thursday night should be the grand opening of Daniel Emma's BIG! at Lamington Drive. It's going to be the last exhibition held in Lamington Drive's current quarters and the silly season makes it pleasingly acceptable to wear party poppers as hats. If you really, truly can't make it, then we forgive you (sort of), but you should come to Madeleine Stamer's workshop for kids on Saturday, December 7 instead. Using the still-life format of BIG! as inspiration, Madeleine will guide your child to make his or her own work of art using stamps, paper collage and bright colours. Oodles of fun and tickets can be bought here. Beci Orpin is also hosting a papercraft-themed workshop inspired by BIG! the weekend after which means there's really no reason at all why we SHOULDN'T see your smiling face soon. No reason whatsoever. Ya hear?
Ars Thanea for ‘Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’
Dec 02, 2013 12:58 pm
Our 3D studio in Poland, Ars Thanea, were tasked by Ubisoft Creative Services in San Francisco with creating the visuals for their Assassin’s Creed IV franchise. ‘Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag’ will be advertised on 85-metre-long billboards around the world as well as on smaller mounted posters: the art had to look flawless so Ars Thanea devoted a month to making each incredibly detailed picture. They used 3DMAX and ZBrush for modeling, V-Ray for rendering, and Photoshop for everything else. The result? New interpretations of well-loved characters and daring compositions. Epic work, guys!
Those terribly talented twin sisters Maricor/Maricar recently created embroidered cover art for the December issue of Meanjin. Don’t you just want to reach out and touch it? The December issue of the quarterly journal will celebrate women writers and visual artists, and Maricor/Maricar cleverly subverted the traditional idea of ‘women’s work’ with their tongue-in-cheek tribute to floral embroidery. Their magically monstrous needlework (look closely: teeth, eyes and tongues make up the leaves and petals of the flowers) has hints of lustrous metallic thread as well as a high contrast colour palette. The new issue of Meanjin will be released on December 15th – nab a copy here.
Aagh! Creepy and compelling at the same time! SEA photographer Paul Torcello was voted ‘Best of Show’ at The Global Awards for his ‘Critters’ Travel Vaccination Awareness Campaign for Vivaxim. We will look twice at our next mojito. Big congrats to Paul – and to all the other winners listed here!
