Did you miss us? We sure as hell missed you! I hope you’ve got your comfiest fluffy robe on and a big ol’ cup of tea in your hands because now that we are reunited once again, we have a stack of exciting things to catch up on. Like the launch of Beci Orpin’s new book ‘Make & Do’, bringing the joy of crafternoons to the people; or the Christmas collaboration between the supremely talented Megan Hess and fragrance and candle purveyors Glasshouse, who have come together to make the world a better-smelling place. We also need to chit-chat about Mia Mala McDonald’s stunning portraits of Courtney Barnett for Shortlist and Chris Welch’s elegant illustration for super fancy nut brand Parker & Paisley. My gosh, so much to cover. Never leave us again! Love always – JW.
Sure we're a little biased, but we've always deeply admired Beci Orpin's affinity for making every space look bright and beautiful. Now we can all join in the fun thanks to her new book 'Make & Do', which is jam-packed full of handy DIY tutorials for all kinds of colourful projects. Whether you’re the type of person with your own dedicated gift-wrapping room full of paper crimpers and ribbon carousels or you’ve never had a use for crepe paper in your life, the instructions are so straightforward you’ll be pulling the clag out in no time! Read on for photos and other crafty news…
Chris Welch for Parker & Paisley
Nov 21, 2014 02:10 pm
You know what’s nuts? How tempted we were to make a series of bad puns about Chris Welch‘s packaging designs for boutique nut merchants Parker & Paisley. But the packaging’s too classy for cheesy lines – gorgeous patterns, soft aesthetics, vintage graphics. The image of a baker handing flowers to a young girl lends the products a touch of nostalgic glamour and that ineffable old-school charm. Chris worked with Glasfurd and Walker to create the different-coloured foil patterns for the company’s first two product releases: Mixed Nuts and Roasted Almonds with Sea Salt. Go nuts.
Working while listening to the folky sounds and quirky lyrics of Courtney Barnett is proving to be a very enjoyable experience. There is head swaying, toe tapping and rhythmic typing happening right now @ JWHQ. A few more people and we may have an office flash mob on our hands! (A girl can dream…)
Everything you feel and imagine when you listen to Courtney Barnett sing is perfectly captured by SEA’s very own Mia Mala, whose latest series of portraiture was featured on Shortlist. This series of portraits makes you smile and feel warm all the way down to your toes. Mia is so versatile and maximises the potential of every shoot location. While beautifully capturing different facets of Courtney’s personality, Mia shines when it comes to making her subjects relatable, and you just know, her set is where the fun is at!
The ever-elegant Megan Hess has brought her particular brand of stylish, evocative illustration to a festive range of products by Australian fragrance and candle purveyors Glasshouse. The limited edition collection is part of a collaboration with Glasshouse’s co-founder and creative director Nicole Eckels, and features triple scented candles, luxury fragrance diffusers and deluxe gift sets.
Megan has previously illustrated portraits for Vanity Fair and TIME, created iconic accessories for Henri Bendel, and illustrated the window displays of Bergdorf Goodman. Her illustrations are the perfect epitome of old-school glamour and new-world couture, with stylish women wearing black feather skirts darting through snow-filled streets carrying bundles of shopping bags, and glamorous scenes of chic socialising and champagne-glass clinking.
To launch this range marked by Megan’s signature penmanship, Glasshouse hosted a Christmas dinner for key media and influencers in Sydney last week. Megan will also attend two special in-store events in Melbourne at David Jones Bourke Street and David Jones Chadstone this month. Click here for details.
