On the good ship Jacky Winter, we talk about dreams a lot. In fact, a failure to talk about the psychologically revealing moments your subconscious scrapes up while you score shut-eye could see you forced to walk a metaphorical plank. It's not particularly scary, though. But we think you should have a looksee at the surreal 'As You Dreamt It' project. We also think you should have more of a 'looksee' in general because Jesse Marlow has shown yet again just how exceptional everyday moments can be in his new book of street photography. Oh, and what's that? We took photographs of you while you weren't looking last week at Lamington Drive? Yeah, we're real sly dogs. But we love you unconditionally, and that's the only type of love worth promoting. Toodleroo, til next time, steer a true course me hearties. Love always - jw.
The first batch of lamingtons has been built into a Lamingtonhenge and the first artist has been adulated in the press - we've officially relaunched Lamington Drive in all its glory and shown off Oslo Davis's first solo exhibition in 4 years. Can you spot yourself in this crowd?
Luke Lucas for Durex Mardi Gras Campaign
Mar 17, 2014 03:31 pm
Ah, Mardi Gras. The annual parade to celebrate difference and diversity is one of Sydney’s most loved events, and this year Luke Lucas created a typographic lock-up for Durex to spread the message of same-sex love. The typeface was used in a print and digital campaign throughout the festival with the entwined lettering reflecting the idea of community. The rainbow motif acknowledges the infinite shades of gay, bisexual, transgendered, queer and intersex culture, and functions as a reminder that people come in different shapes, colours and forms. Well done, Luke.
Last Thursday night we celebrated a momentous occasion – the opening night of As If by Oslo Davis and the grand unveiling of our new gallery space in Sackville Street. We had cider on ice, lamingtons in spades, and an awesome bunch of people helping us out. Thanks, guys! Our friends at The Thousands came along and you may even find a familiar face or two in their photo gallery.
As If is Oslo’s first solo exhibition in four years and it’s on until March 29th. Get your asses down here and then laugh ‘em off. That’s an order.

As You Dreamt It feat. Toby & Pete, James Gulliver Hancock and Emma Phillips
Mar 12, 2014 11:01 am
There is nothing more universal, visual or *ahem* psychologically revealing than the language of dreams. Dreams transcend language, race or age and formed the inspiration for the BMF exhibition entitled As You Dreamt It. Ordinary people were partnered with photographers and artists to recreate their recurring dreams exactly as they were dreamt. The As You Dreamt It project has strengthened the sense of community in Woodville road housing complex Sydney. Many of its residents are political refugees with huge stories to tell and they worked with Toby & Pete, James Gulliver Hancock and Emma Phillips to bring their dreams to life. The pieces of art have been posted dramatically around Woodville and a 30 minute documentary about the complex is currently in the works for the ABC’s arts programming. Strange, fascinating and beautiful story-telling, guys.
