Okay, we're not going to lie to you here - The wonderful and magical Hilary who writes our amazing newsletter introductions has had a small cycling accident while trying to outrun a fringe group of dread pirate wedding photographers, so instead of our usual hyperlinked introductory paragraph, we will instead crowdsource a gaggle of good vibes to send out to her. Get well soon, Hilary! For all the other news that's fit to print, read on below!

Nothing quite so perfectly evokes the comforts of solitude or the pleasures of petite sandwiches as the thought of tea. Ben Ashton-Bell was commissioned by The Works Sydney to create the artwork for Tetley‘s new range of infusions, featuring a warmingCinnamon & Orange, a calming Peppermint & Lemongrass and a vitalising Forest Fruits & Apple. Tea truly is the elixir of fortitude. Our coffee beans may look aghast, but we’ve got to give credit where credit is due. That’s Tetley, Ben and some good brewin’ over there – and above us, a cinnamon stick wearing boardshorts!
Guy Shield created this illustration of Jeff Errington, founder of Demuris and director of the Institute for Cell & Molecular Biosciences at Newcastle University, for WIRED UK. It goes into the roots of the first wave of antibiotics and Errington’s belief that ‘the future is all about collaboration’. More here.
Our visual genius Gemma O’Brien was commissioned to illustrate an article for US mag Nautilus that explores the effects of genetic engineering and the creation of super-intelligent humans whose ‘g’ factor has been genetically engineered. So what is this ‘g’ factor, you ask? Well, when favourable genetic variants in the human genome are directly ‘edited’ into cognitive ability, they can reach more than 1,000 IQ points. This means that we could, in due course, be adding super-geniuses to mammoths on the scientific list of wonders to be produced in the new genomic age. It also means we should probably stop calling Gemma a genius because she’s all natural, baby. Read the full, fascinating article here and meekly prepare for the arrival of a generation of individuals with intelligence that is qualitatively higher than any that has ever existed on Earth. #YOLO, amirite?
