Welcome to your Jacky Winter horoscope for the week, inspired by last week's lunar eclipse and about as accurate as the encyclopedia if you used the encyclopedia to determine your romantic compatibility with strangers. The cosmic breakdown indicates that sleep may elude you as you wrestle with existential questions under Oslo Davis's moonlit tree at Golden Plains as well as a couple of random wrestlers. You may feel eager to explore another postcode and find yourself jetting off to a sunny port to hunt down Sophie Blackhall-Cain's treasures. The waxing and waning moons could lead you to contemplate the capacity of imagination in a new manner that is not exactly inspired by reality. In matters of love, be wary of interfering romantically between a surprised cat and a traumatised lab assistant. While 'just be yourself' is technically good advice, it is limited and in some instances it is good to remember that there is not always a robot for everyone. Love always - jw.
Every year, Oslo Davis creates the artwork for Golden Plains. This year, the hero image is a majestic tree with hundreds of happy revelers underneath it. You can just imagine the things that it's overheard. Now in it's ninth iteration, Golden Plains is on from March 7-9, 2015. You should go ... you never know which artist might choose you for his trademark line-drawings.
Michael Weldon for Cosmos Magazine
Oct 13, 2014 10:27 am
Do androids dream of electric sheep, and does Joaquin Phoenix dream of Scarlett Johansson? Michael Weldon illustrated an article for Cosmos Magazine which explores the notion of Artificial Intelligence and the future of our relationships with robots. You can read it here and we strongly recommend that you do – from Siri to Samantha, it’s fascinating. The special ‘Rise of the Robots’ themed edition of Cosmos is out now – click here for more articles about AI and automation.
As Golden Plains draws closer, a great spike of excitement shudders through Australia, and for us, at least a little of that wondrously wobbly excitement is because Oslo Davis creates the artwork. This year he’s done a tree. Is it the tree of life? Is it the tree of wisdom? Can you wear wooden clogs to climb the tree or is that, like, totally insensitive? All fair and reasonable questions. Ones we’re not going to answer. But maybe you’ll find the answers under said tree at Golden Plains Number Nine, March 7 to 9, 2015. It’s anybody’s guess. See all of Oslo’s previous artwork for Golden Plains here.
The ingenious ladies of Good Wives and Warriors were commissioned to illustrate an intriguing article about imagination for New Scientist magazine. Oooh … shall we say more, or shall we leave it up to your imaginations? The article explores how imagination comes to exist and how it may have inadvertently contributed to the rise of human civilisation. Read it online here!
