Some opportunities only come once, or so they tell us. The bad news is that your opportunity to attend Sydney Field Trip 2013 has been and gone. The good news is that we love you anyway. And you totally have the opportunity to make it up to us this week and/or complain about our obnoxious overuse of Instagram at the opening of Chronox. Expect reverberations of folk-art whirligigs, office-space ambience, eerie métamatics and mini-golf to resound in your head. Oh, and get your fill of art inspiration prior to the show with hand-drawn book covers, mundane objects made memorable, jumbo Tic Tac boxes and fashionable cocktails. Just don't eat the frogurt - we hear it's poisoned. That's the real bad news. Love always - jw.
The hotly anticipated 'Chronox' is opening at Lamington Drive this week and we're bursting with excitement about seeing the collection of new work from Lachlan Conn and Michael Prior. Playing it cool is overrated anyway - come have a gander, cower in awe, and drink a drink with us.
CHRONOX at Lamington Drive
Sep 02, 2013 11:05 am
What, you ask, is a ‘chronox’? Well, a ‘Chronox’ is not so much a thing as a phenomenon. The ongoing partnership between Lachlan Conn and Michael Prior, it’s a collection of work inspired by the gentle hum of activity within The Compound Interest and the animated landscape of hypnotic automata and awkward machinery. Expect echoes of folk-art whirligigs mixed together with métamatics, mini-golf and office-space vibrations. Chronox will be showing at Lamington Drive from September 6 – 28, with an opening on Thursday September 5 from 6-9pm. For more information, head over here or RSVP to the exhibition launch here.
‘The Fashionable Cocktail’, illustrated by our own style-savvy Neryl Walker, was officially launched this week by Hardie Grant Books. The third book in the trilogy for Jane Rocca, it contains over 150 cocktail recipes and illustrations… but really, who’s counting after 5? Like any lonely debutante, this book needed a partner, and has happily merged with Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. There will be a ticketed event held at Touché Hombre this Tuesday, and the ticket price includes Mexican canapés, cocktails, a goodie bag jam-packed with beauty products and a copy of the beautifully illustrated book. Chin-chin, darlings!
Creative dream-team Becky Bolton and Louise Chappell of Good Wives and Warriors recently worked on a larger-than-life Tic Tac box in Dusseldorf. Their live illustration attracted more than just passing attention from pedestrians and provided a fresh take on interactive advertising. Mmm… minty.
DDB Sydney has partnered with some of Jacky Winter’s super talented illustrators to launch its 2014 Graduate Program. Now in it’s 14th year, this year’s campaign challenges applicants to ‘Make It Famous‘, asking them to take everyday objects and make them look interesting and/or compelling. JW’s beloved Ben Sanders, Kate Banzai, Georgia Perry, Mimi Leung, Bobby Haiqalsyah, Mark Godoy and He She It They I have all worked their magic on a ball of tumble-dryer lint, a toilet roll, a rock, a key and a lollipop stick. Their poster art will be shown at universities in Sydney to raise awareness of DDB’s Graduate Program. Get your creative juices flowing and follow the campaign Facebook page!
Penguin Books Australia recently asked our very own Rudi de Wet to create the hand-drawn type for this book cover. Working closely with Marina Messiha, the Art Director/Designer on the project, Rudi encourages you all to judge Will Kostakis’s book by its cover.
And that's your lot for this week. Parting is such sweet sorrow that I shall say goodbye til it be morrow,
