News from the Farm
Hello! The cold and a thin blanket of snow has at last come to the farm. Like our laying hens, the wood stove is fed everyday now. It's a nice kind of work to load the stove. The whole chunks are thick and heavy, but the stove fills up fast. It's a chore that keeps your farmers healthy and fit!
We haven't written in a while. Once the garlic was planted and mulched in November, we said goodbye to our summer crew members. It's bittersweet to say goodbye, now all the work is on the two of us. We spend most of the week washing and trimming roots, cleaning onions and garlic, sorting the last of the squash and pumpkins, and then delivering the orders.
December has been so mild, we've continued to cut wood and are slowly building the greenhouse (see photo below). Our spare moments are spent working on year-end bookkeeping, and revising all our sales and marketing materials for 2018. See the "CSA UPDATE" below.
But we're keeping our work days reasonable, spending the long nights with our growing sons. Paul is now 11, and John just about 9. We're involved in their youth hockey teams, like to play games, and enjoy reading and skiing.
May your Holiday season be filled with good food and cheer! Drop us a line if you feel the urge. We always enjoy hearing from you.
Eat well and happy cooking everyone,
Mat & Cate
