Cucumbers ~
2 each Small Shares; 3 each Standard Shares; 6 each Double Shares.

Refrigerator pickles, canned pickles, or if you like mixed drinks, try making these fun twists!  http://relish.com/slideshows/10-refreshing-cucumber-cocktails-for-summer/   If you like pickling, we do have a small patch and are offering them in the bulk purchase area below.

Garlic ~
1 each Small Shares; 2 each Standard Shares; 3 each Double Shares

Store on the counter and use at anytime.  Will keep for many months this way.

Kale ~ Lacinato
1 small bunch Small Shares; 1 large bu. Standard Shares; 2 large bu. Doubles

Lacinato kale isn't quite as tender as other kale, holding it's shape nicely and not disappearing.  We enjoy it lightly cooked and used in scrambled eggs,
spaghetti sauce, but also mixed with boiled, buttered potatoes.

Prepare by rinsing leaves, then holding the stem, strip leaves away.
Store in covered container to maintain humidity.  Also freezes great!

Melon, Cantaloupe ~ Wow!
2-3 count for Small Shares; 3-4 count for Standard Shares; 5-6 count for Double Shares.

Don't store them, gobble them up!  Eat the ones with more fragrance as those were harvested earlier. Everyone received a load of the crop!

Peppers:
    Green Bell  2 Doubles only
Red Bell 3 count Small Shares; 4 count Standard Shares; 6 colored peppers Doubles

Peppers freeze great.  Wash, cut in half, discard seed cavity, stuff into freezer bag. Easy!  Perfect to use in all your winter cooking. We love them in a vegetable soup, chile and of course tacos.

Sweet Corn!
4 ears Small Shares; 8 ears Standard Shares; 12 ears Double Shares.

Tomatoes, A mixture of Sungold (orange) and Red Cherry's.
1 pound Small Shares; 2 pounds Standards; 4 pounds Doubles

Wow, they're pouring in from the field now! The heat has been ripening them quickly.  Is it too many?  Quickly use up your bag by oven roasting them at a low temperature. Coat halves of tomatoes and pieces of garlic with oil and arrange on cookie sheet.  Sprinkle generously with salt and pepper.  Low and Slow is what you want - will take several hours to roast with the delicious flavors slowly combining.

Tomatoes ~ A mixture of Black Prince, Big Beef Red, Polbig Red, MoonGlow yellow, and Paste
2.5 pounds Small Shares; 5 pounds Standards; Two 5 pound bags Doubles

You'll want to wash and leave sit on your counter a few days to fully ripen.  So allow fruits to sit at room temperature and they'll ripen nicely.
Coming Soon....Cantaloupe, Broccoli, Sweet Corn, Kale, Leeks, and more!

News from the Farm

Wow, what a harvest this week!  It's a very heavy box this week, so be careful and hold the bottom of the box as you lift it.  As you see by the listing, there are lots of goodies this week as we share the bounty.  The heat pushed crops and your farm crew.  It was tremendous work and endless cherry tomatoes!  All of that during long harvest days, and with the dry, dry conditions all spare moments during the calm of the nighttime is spent irrigating.  We are praying that the 40% rain chance will lift the burden of irrigation from our shoulders.

We are letting the photos from a friends recent visit serve better than our tired minds can arrange words.  Thank you Drew Shonka for sharing your talents!  We recommend Drew for any event or special occasion. Check out drewshonkaphotography.com.

Happy cooking - Happy eating!

With Gratitude,
Mat and Cate
