News From the Farm
With only 2 remaining CSA boxes to pack and deliver (final box for Berry Group is October 3rd; final box for Melon Group is October 10th), we're planning what will be in those final boxes.
If you're wanting to stock up on things, check out the Bulletin Board below and place your order! We don't have a separate bulk order form this season.
Last week we spent 1 1/2 days topping the rest of our onions. This week we're washing and counting squash so we're certain to have some of each variety given in the final weeks, along with the butternut squash bounty!!
Tomorrow, the fields should be dry enough - (at long last!!) - to dig the potatoes and the rest of our carrots. We really lucked out that the storms and severe weather did not hit our farm on Tuesday night. Our spirits were low when we saw the storm tracker forecasting 80% chance of heavy rains. We really need the time for the soil to dry sowe can dig roots, or we literally won't have them for boxes next week! We tried to dig potatoes on Tuesday, but the fields were still soggy and the digger quickly becamea muddy mess.
As the weather continues to hold, we're still harvesting the last tomatoes and peppers. We'll see what next week brings.
Eat well - Be well!
Your appreciative farmers,
Cate & Mat
"Buck" - Turning 4 soon and one of the best dog personalities we've had. Best hunter, local companion, snuggle bug. Not sure what we'd do without our Buckeroo!
Deadline is 8:30 am on Monday of the week you are changing.
Every Other WeekShares - you can elect to have your share delivered on an alternate/off Thursday, OR if you want to maintain your usual EOW schedule then we will "double up" your share size on another Thursday delivery day of your choosing.
Weekly Shares would also select a date to have their share "doubled", on another Thursday delivery day.
What does "doubled up" mean? If you are a Small Share then you'd receive a Standard Share; if you're a Standard Share you'd receive a Double Share.
If you have any questions on how it works don't hesitate to contact us.
Week#16 CSA Box Contents:
Weekly Shares + Every-other-Week "Melon Group"
We had hoped to have Cantaloupe this week, but the cool nights and several cool cloudy days didn't ripening them as expected. Maybe next week!
Kale, Red or Green
Cured, so leave out on your counter until you're ready to use it. Red onions are a good storage type with strong onion taste. An excellent onion for cooking with but also for eating raw or parboiling for beet salad!
Peppers - Sweet Peppers
The patch is just about done. We may have a few lingering next week...
Peppers - Jalapenos (Farmer shares only)

Butternuts are a favorite amongst many. Kabocha's are a very sweet, creamy squash and one of our families all time favorites!
Leave on the counter or a cool, dry place until ready to use. Easy to bake, but equally good to peel and cube them saute. One family favorite dish is bacon, onions, cooked kale, sauteed squash.
