FABEC Ministerial Meeting

The Ministers of Transport of the member States of FABEC (Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Switzerland) met in Luxembourg on 8 October. The Ministers underlined their joint commitment to organising air traffic management within the airspace of the Functional Airspace Block Europe Central (FABEC) irrespective of national borders and based on the principles laid down in the FABEC States Agreement. In the course of the meeting they endorsed a common declaration.

South-East Project

FABEC is implementing the first large-scale, cross-border airspace design project – the South-East Project in the border areas of France, Switzerland, Germany and Luxembourg. To explain the complex project a video and a leaflet has been produced. [read more]

Slight increase in traffic - bad weather conditions and lack of ATC capacity influenced service quality

The first half year of the second reference period showed a continuation of the trend of the previous months. The number of flights in FABEC airspace increased moderately, on average by 1.6 percent. However, there continued to be significant variation in these numbers at the various control centres. Looking at regions, traffic grew the most in the northwest of FABEC airspace (Brussels and Amsterdam).[read more]

Inter FAB Coordination Workshop

FABEC participated in the second Inter FAB Coordination Workshop organised by DANUBE FAB. The results of the meeting can be found [here].

FABEC Free Route network improves European connectivity

In the first nine months of 2015, 240 new direct routes (DCTs) were implemented across FABEC airspace. A strong increase in the use of DCTs has been observed corresponding to the implementation of new DCTs introduced in January, April and June. Several of these direct routes also connect with other direct routes in neighbouring Functional Airspace Blocks (FABs), namely the UK-Ireland FAB, the North European FAB, FAB Central Europe and Blue Med FAB, extending the connectivity of the European direct route network. [read more]

Paul Riemens will stay on as CEO of Air Traffic Control the Netherlands - LVNL - until November 2016.

John Santurbano has been appointed as Director of ANA Luxembourg as of 15th October 2015.
