Performance 2014: Overall increase of controlled flights – Punctuality settles down – Significant local differences

Over the past year the service quality provided by the seven FABEC air navigation service providers settles down on a high level. While the average en-route delay was 0.47 minutes (28.6 seconds) per flight in 2013, it slightly deteriorated to 0.56 minutes (33.6 seconds) in 2014. [read more]

Free Route: 411 direct routings implemented

During the years 2013 and 2014, 411 direct routings (DCTs) of different length and availability were implemented in FABEC airspace within the framework of the FABEC-wide Free Route Programme (FRA). A great amount of them are cross border DCTs. [read more]

Functional Airspace Blocks: Added value with different approach

The Dutch presidency of FAB Europe Central organised an interFAB coordination workshop that brought together State representatives of all nine Functional Airspace Blocks (FABs) to Amsterdam on 18 and 19 November 2014. The workshop created an informal platform to exchange information and share lessons learned.[read more]

Inter FAB operations: Cross-border air traffic control trial cuts Heathrow holding times

A trial conducted by FAB UK/Ireland and FABEC to cut the amount of time aircraft spend circling in ‘holding stacks’ at Heathrow Airport has started to reap rewards. [read more]

Operations: Three new initiatives launched

On 11 and 12 December, the heads of control centres met in Paris. The main topic of consideration at this meeting was the FABEC initiatives of the so-called second pillar. These are operational initiatives which, in addition to the large airspace design projects, are aimed at making further progress in fostering the cooperative working environment in FABEC and bringing about positive effects in the control centres over the short term. PEOPLE

Peter Müller, Director General of the Federal Office of Civil Aviation Switzerland (FOCA), took over the rotating Chairmanship of the FABEC Council from The Netherlands.

As of 1 February 2015, Pierre Jaeger will take on the position of Director of the Directorate of Civil Aviation.

He succeeds Christiane Weidenhaupt in this position.

DFS Board of Managing Directors: Contracts extended until 2020

Niels Heijkoop, Dutch Ministry of Transport, takes over the chairmanship of the Harmonisation and Advisory Committee.

He replaces Gael Poget from Switzerland.
