American Idiot ready to ROCK Winnipeg audiences!
Winnipeg Studio Theatre (WST), in partnership with White Rabbit Productions (WRP), has begun work on the rock musical, American Idiot, the Green Day Musical! The production is the first to see the two local companies combine forces including handing the directing reigns to WRP Artistic Director, Simon Miron.

“Simon Miron is a perfect fit for this project,” says Kayla Gordon, WST Producer/Artistic Director. “He made his professional debut with the company in Altar Boyz and has worked on a number of WST productions.”

“The show is full of highly talented people. A lot of them are young and hungry which makes the process really fun,” explains Simon. “There are some challenges to make this show more than just ‘Green Day in concert’. I'm working hard with the production team to make choices that help push the story to the forefront of the piece.”
Taking on the role of as Associate Producer for the show is WRP Operations Director, Jeff Kohut. Despite the fact that the Green Day album (of the same name) came out in 2004 followed by the show in 2009, the main messages still ring true.
“Political discontent, political distrust and a desire for change are obviously still prevalent today given the latest election cycle in both Canada and the US,” says Jeff. “It expresses millennials’ collective sense of disillusionment, growing up in a war-on-TV everyday world, but I venture to say that this frustration and disillusionment extends to other generations as well. As a Gen-X’er, I certainly feel the same distrust and frustration with our political system and leaders.”
The show is sure to make waves and drum up conversations when it hits Winnipeg’s Tom Hendry Warehouse Theatre February 23rd – March 5th, 2017.
