South Hill Library reopens with offerings for all

After a one-month closure to bring you improved service, South Hill Library reopened with offerings for everyone. New sound absorbing materials allow people to study together or talk without disturbing others who are reading quietly or studying. A media library inside the library for DVDs and CDs offers you a huge selection of new releases, children’s favorites and movie classics. Bookmark contest held in honor of National Library Week

Red Canoe Credit Union held its first ever bookmark contest for young artists, to celebrate National Library Week. The top three winners received a $50 prize to donate to their favorite library. Pierce County Library Foundation salutes winners

And the winners are…. Pierce County Library Foundation hosted the 14th annual Our Own Expressions Teen Writing and Art Contest awards ceremony. A total of 36 young writers and artists were honored for their winning entries in short story, poetry, drawing and photography. The finalists presented their winning works at an awards ceremony May 24 at Lagerquist Hall on the campus of Pacific Lutheran University. Read more »

University Place Library earns LEED certification

Pierce County Library System earned LEED certification—Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design at the silver certification level for University Place Pierce County Library. In February 2011 the University Place Library, at the Civic and Library Building at 3609 Market Place W. opened with many sustainability building practices. This month the U.S. Green Building Council awarded the UP Library with full certification for LEED silver. Read more »
