“I just love bringing my boys to the library. I’m so excited that they get to be back in the building. There’s something for each of them and so many different ways to engage and entertain them. I’m so grateful to keep growing their love for books!”

Lakewood Pierce County Library closing and
moving to short-term location

To serve the community better, the Pierce County Library System is closing the Lakewood Library building Sunday, June 5 to prepare for service in a short-term location planned to open in late 2022.

As we have shared, Library administrators have been assessing how to provide improved library services in Lakewood, given the aging and deteriorating Lakewood Library building. The costs for repairs and replacements outweigh the value of the building. At this time, the Library System does not plan to invest further in the current building and determined further investments are cost-prohibitive.

The Library System will await a recommendation from a community advisory committee and a decision by the Board of Trustees before investing further in the building.
