Hi <<First Name>>

It’s officially hot in Arizona.

We hope you’re staying cool and healthy.

What's Going On in the World?

Our hearts are breaking for the many individuals and families who are hurting right now. Both injustice and discrimination are intolerable.

We finally bought a car … in a way that we’ve never done before.

This is Annette standing with Cindy our used-car salesperson at TheOneCarSales in Phoenix. They have a referral program, so if you live in Arizona and go there, could you please mention our name?

We’ve always bought good condition used cars from private sellers … never from a dealer.

This year we were buying the 7th car we’ve ever purchased for us. We’ve helped friends and our kids buy cars, but over 38 years of marriage we’ve only bought 7 cars.

After much research, we settled on a Toyota Sienna. But finding one within our budget, with low miles was really hard. Private seller Siennas in good condition sold fast.

Dealers had some that were in our price range, but paying more than $2000 in sales tax and fees just didn’t sit well with us. In Arizona when you buy a used car from a private party you don’t pay any sales tax.

But we found a gently used, one-owner Sienna at a small dealership and ended up getting a great deal. They included a 3-month power-train warranty and 2 years of oil changes. We saw a clean CafFax report and had our mechanic look over the car also.

So, we did something we never did before … we bought a car from a dealership. And met some really fine people there.

We’re making frugal fun!

PS: There are some links for affiliate relationships where we may receive a small commission if you make a purchase. No purchase is required to get some of this great information.

Companies with Excellent Customer Service

Getting excellent customer service from a large corporation is one of the seven wonders of the world . . . well, at least it seems that way. We love dealing with companies who have well-trained employees who really seem to care about their customers’ problems.
Companies with Bad Customer Service

We have had a number of frustrating interactions with companies lately – mostly internet/cell phone and utilities providers.

Poor or non-existent customer service has become the norm. Long hold times and getting disconnected on phone calls is so frequent that we’ve come to expect it.

But if you want to deal with companies that seem to care ... Check out our list of Companies with GREAT Customer Serviceand if you know of one we didn’t mention - please send it to us.

Give a Teen a Car?

Have you wondered if you should give your teen a car?

Are other parents in your area doing it and you’re getting pressure from your child?

What should parents do about Teens & Cars?

Is it MoneySmart to give your kids a car and a computer? One dad thinks so.

We didn’t give any of our kids a car. But we did help them save and shop and buy their first cars for cash.

When we heard about this dad who gave his teenager a 1965 Mustang, we thought he’d lost his mind.

Protect Under Sink Water Leaks

We had a leaking faucet on our kitchen sink. This isn’t the first time we’ve had a leak, but it will be the last time we have water damage to our cabinets.

See what Steve installed to alert us to leaks and stop the water from damaging the wood.

Get the Sink Mat and Water Detector we talked about in the video.

No-Bake Chocolate Oatmeal Cookies

We first tasted this delicious, addictive chocolatey recipe when our friend Roma made them more than 30 years ago. We call them Roma’s; you’ll call them delicious. They are great for summer because you don’t have to turn on your oven. They’re cooked in a pot on the stove and then put into the refrigerator or freezer to firm up.

 Asian Cabbage Salad

This is one of our all-time favorite salads to eat at any time of year!  Easy to make and great for taking to potlucks, big events, entertaining, or as a veggies recipe side dish for dinner. If you don’t finish it all at one meal, just be aware that the ramen noodles will get soggy and the nuts will get soft. You may want to toss those on individual servings instead of mixing them in.
