July 2021 Newsletter
Welcome to the Breaston Pre-School July Newsletter
It's the last month of term and we've got lots to look forward to before we break up for the Summer holidays. Read on for information about our Sponsored Body Jam, Leaver's Picnic, and important information for September.

Tuesday 20th July will be our last day in Pre-School this term, with your child's end of year report being uploaded to your First Steps ParentLink app shortly after. School leaver parents - a copy of your child's learning journal will be emailed to you during the Summer.

Our Pre-School caterpillars have become pupa inside their chrysalis (cocoons) over the past week so the children are eagerly awaiting them hatching out into butterflies. Keep an eye on our social media where we will be updating you with their progress!
Sponsored Body Jam

Next week we are holding a sponsored Body Jam inspired event for the children at Pre-School.

The children will be invited to strut their funky stuff, get down and boogie, and move their bodies in any way that they wish, every day that they are in Pre-School during the week. At the end of the week, we will count how many songs each child danced to and give them a special certificate and a medal for taking part!
Getting children up and moving to music is a great way to exercise, helping them to keep fit and healthy in a fun and exciting way.

As we have not been able to hold a Summer Fayre this year, we hope that you will get behind this fundraiser and help raise vital funds for Pre-School resources and equipment.

Unfortunately, our GoFundMe account is unavailable at the moment, so we ask that donations are given as cash along with the sponsorship form that your child has brought/will be bringing home. Alternatively, you can donate via bank transfer directly to Pre-School, account no. 46082034 sort code 60-13-23. We ask that monies are handed in/transferred by 16th July at the latest please.

We thank you for your support!

If any parents/carers/grandparents would like to get involved with the fundraising team at Pre-School, please let Kayleigh know by emailing

 Leaver's Picnic - Tuesday 20th July
On the last day of term, as long as current restrictions are lifted, we will be holding a Leaver's Picnic in the afternoon over on Duffield Close fields to say goodbye to all our school leaver children!

We will be going over the road at 11.45 so please join us from then. Children not usually in session are welcome to join us, and parents/carers too! If your child is in session and you are joining us, please let us know if you can collect your child from Pre-School and take them over to the field yourself.

If the weather is bad, or restrictions stay in place preventing us from holding the picnic, we will hold an indoor party for school leavers and children usually in session. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate parents or children not usually in session (except school leavers) at the party. We will communicate which event will be held as far in advance as we can, but please be aware that the next restrictions review is not until 15th July.
The weather is very changeable at the moment and we all get caught out by it, but please try to send your child into Pre-School wearing suncream (or in long sleeves/trousers) and with a sun hat on days that it is needed, and with a showerproof jacket on days when it is forecast to rain. The children like to play outside in the rain and the sun, and we simply don't have enough spare raincoats or sun hats for everyone!

Please ensure that if your child wears wellies to Pre-School that you bring a pair of shoes for them to wear indoors. Children will be made to remove them at the door as they are not suitable footwear for playing indoors. Playing in their socks/tights is not ideal as the children are more likely to slip on the floor or hurt their feet on toys.
 Crisp Packet Collection for Terracycle
We will be accepting donations of empty crisp packets to recycle with TerraCycle on the week commencing 12th July. For more information about the scheme, please visit the Terracycle website here.
You have helped us to recycle hundreds of crisp packets now, raising nearly £50 for Pre-School to spend on resources for the children - THANK YOU!
Spare Clothing
If your child has come home in Pre-School clothes over the past term, then please make sure that the clothes are returned to us. We only have a finite amount of clothing available for children to borrow when they get messy/wet and it is really appreciated when it is brought back promptly.
We are currently running very low on girls and boys socks (any size worn by 2-4 yearolds), and boys trousers in 2-3 and 3-4. If you have any of these items going spare then we ask that you consider donating them to Pre-School, as we would greatly appreciate it!
Please can parents/carers ensure that any grapes in your child's lunchbox are sliced in half. Whole grapes are a choking hazard and even children who are very sensible eating grapes at home can still choke. Staff are currently spending a lot of time during lunch cutting up grapes instead of sitting at the tables with the children and it is becoming quite disruptive.

Also can we remind parents/carers that children who are attending lunch club and afternoon session need to be dropped off at 11.45. We cannot accept additional children into the setting until this time. Thank you for your understanding.
Autumn Term 2021 - Places Available & Fee Increase
For those children continuing at Pre-School in September, we will have INSET days on Thursday 2nd and Friday 3rd of September, making Monday 6th September the first day back at Pre-School.

We still have some places available for September, so if you have any friends or family with children hoping to join Pre-School then please let them know to get in touch ASAP to secure their place.

At a trustee meeting earlier in the year, the decision was made to increase our fees to cover the increased cost of staff wages after the minimum wage was raised in April, as well as our rising operating costs. We are a not-for-profit charity and do not raise our fees lightly or for anyone's profit.

From September we will be charging the following:
AM Session: £13.50
PM Session: £13.50
Lunch Club: £6.00
All Day: £33.00
£1 a week added to invoices for snack and food-based activities.

Our website and fees policy therein will be updated shortly to reflect these changes.
We thank you for your understanding.
Stay safe and take care,
Breaston Pre-School
