If you read this subject line and are wondering WHAT we are talking about—then you will have to join us this coming week for our Summer Sermon Series on REST. This Sunday at our monthly Family Worship service, we are learning about the ancient practice of Sabbath, and how we can incorporate this into our day to day lives as disciples.
We all need a rhythm of work and rest in our lives, and after a year where sometimes it felt as if every day was a carbon copy of the day before, the practice of Sabbath helps us to set aside time in our schedules that is different.
Also, this Sunday marks the end of Lo Cook’s summer student placement. We have loved having Lo lead us in worship and bible study, preach and pray for us, and open our church for prayer on Fridays in July. Please join me in thanking Lo for contributing her great gifts for ministry with us!
Finally, I want to share with you a wonderful way in which God is working in our parish. When I asked this community for a “few bags of groceries” and “a couple of gift cards” to hand out to those in need who sometimes come to our doors, the response was incredible.
Just like the multiplication of the loaves and fishes that Jesus feeds his people with on that hillside in the Gospels, the Spirit moves among us and draws out great generosity and abundance. It is amazing to see what Joanne and Yvonne were able to put together from your gifts—a beautiful pantry of food which you can check out below. The next step for us is to find a way to share this abundance with those around us, so stay tuned for more on that.
I pray that all of us have a chance over the coming summer weeks to channel our inner sloth for the glory of God!
