The League of Women Voters in January weighed in on two pieces of legislation dealing with public education. The Assembly bill is more objectionable than the Senate bill, but both severely threaten control of our schools by local elected officials and weaken public education by diverting tax dollars to private schools which are not held accountable to the same high standards. Despite a letter from the chair of the Government Accountability Board to Assembly Speaker Robin Vos stating that recent claims that GAB staff have acted outside their authority are "just not true," some legislative leaders are still promising to make significant changes to the government watchdog agency.
