City of Malden - Substance Abuse Prevention
The Chamber was proud to host a positive youth development (PYD) forum this summer, which was very well attended.  Patty Kelly, President of the Chamber reported, "The Positive Youth Forum was very well received by the Malden Chamber of Commerce community. Business owners and non -profit organizations in attendance learned a lot about creating a culture that engages our youth in meaningful activities.  At Housing Families, we provide the opportunity for students over the age of 14 to tutor in our after school program and volunteer their time in other ways, such as helping with administrative tasks. It is a way for Housing Families to keep in touch with students and to listen to what is important to them in order to have a meaningful experience as a volunteer. The PYD forum  explained in detail how this benefits the teen population in our neighborhoods. It was helpful to hear great suggestions on how to create a positive environment where we can work together to ensure teens have opportunities to feel productive and welcome in our business community."
