Thank you, Mayor Pulido, for standing up for our children!

The Mayor of Santa Ana, California, Miguel Pulido, has issued a courageous proclamation in support of mercury-free dentistry  on behalf of the City Council.  The Mayor salutes the work of Californians for Green Dentistry (a project of Consumers for Dental Choice), and “support[s] their mission to eliminate the use of mercury in dental practices.”  He calls on all dentists in Santa Ana “voluntarily [to] cease the use of Dental Amalgam and switch to interchangeable, modern alternatives.”

This exciting proclamation, issued 2 August 2011, follows an earlier action by the neighboring city of Costa Mesa under Mayor Gary Monahan –  a resolution that  urged the elimination of dental mercury “immediately.”  Mayor Monahan is a Republican and Mayor Pulido is a Democrat, a reflection of the bipartisan teamwork it takes to stand up to polluters.

Anita Vazquez Tibau and Marisa Russo are to be commended for their work on our Californians for Green Dentistry project, which is clearly succeeding in its mission to raise awareness about dental mercury pollution.

But we need your help!

The pro-mercury faction of dentists – still practicing dentistry like their grandfathers – is now relentlessly hammering Mayor Pulido with telephone calls defending mercury.

Please support this forward-thinking Mayor by thanking him for standing up to these polluters.  Phone him at 714-647-6900; leave a message.  Or write Mayor Pulido at mpulido@santa-ana.org

Dental mercury pollution hurts us all.  According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, amalgam in the environment leads to brain damage and neurological problems, especially in children and unborn babies.  So dentists, consumers, parents, Californians, all Americans, and world citizens, everybody please pitch in!

Miguel Pulido, born in Mexico, is a leader among Latino/Hispanic political figures and a firm believer in environmental justice.  He recognizes that dental mercury – both in the mouth and in the environment – disproportionately burdens minority communities.  His growing city, Santa Ana, is the 57th most populous city in the entire nation and it's the county seat of Orange County.

We can’t let the pro-mercury dentists attack Mayor Pulido's courageous stand for green dentistry.  Show your support for a dental mercury-free world by thanking the Mayor today!
