There's way too many interesting things to do on a long weekend than get your Fair Food order in - so if you've missed last night's midnight cut-off we've pushed back the order cut-off for Tuesday and Wednesday orders to midday Monday. Just shop as normal before resuming your Queens Birthday celebrations.
Two of our much-loved men honoured on Queen's Birthday
Two men who's vision, dedication and enormous-heartedness guided CERES from a tip site into Australia's most visited environmental centre have been recognised in today's Queen's Birthday Honours List. Eric, who recently died, and Noel, who recently retired, were both with CERES from the beginning. With great dedication and very dry humour they gave themselves to transforming a dump into an urban oasis and their students into caring, conscious citizens. Congratulations and thank you for what you have given to our community.
Eric and Noel received Member of the Order of Australia awards.
Eric Bottomley For significant service to the environment and conservation, and to the development of sustainability education programs.
Noel Blencowe For significant service to environmental education, and to the promotion of sustainability and social equity.
I talked to Kane (that's him up there) at Busch Organics last Monday, they're almost finished for the season and will be back supplying Fair Food with carrots, cabbage, broccoli, beans, kale and more in spring (which is much earlier than usual). The reason they can extend their season is they have bought another block and are looking at another to expand the farm further still. Things have come a long way in 4 years when the Busch's, who have been farming the Lindenow river flats for three generations, looked like they would go out of business. With prices falling at the wholesale market Kane and his family decided the only way they could survive was to sell direct to retailers like Fair Food. More than survive the Busch's are really thriving and it's a great example of how supporting farmers directly can be the difference between keeping and selling the farm.
Have a great weekend
