Canadian Agricultural Safety Week 2011 March 13 – 19, 2011 kicked off the safety year 
Canadian Agricultural Safety Week was launched officially in Nova Scotia and Alberta on Friday, March 11 but most provinces are spearheading the safety messaging with local media and area farmers this year.  The 2011 Ag Safety Week theme is PLAN.FARM.SAFETY. Manage the risk. Control the hazard

André Bonneau joins CASA’s Board of Directors 2010-11 
 André Bonneau is the newest member of CASA’s seven-person Board of Directors. He was acclaimed at the November 16 AGM in Winnipeg.  André represents the Government sector of CASA’s Advisory Council.  
Denis Bilodeau is the Board’s Treasurer  
Denis Bilodeau was re-affirmed to the Board in November representing the Producer Organization sector.   He is also a vice-president for Union des producteurs agricoles du Québec (UPA) which represents all of Quebec’s 44,000 farmers.  Denis has been very involved with farm accident prevention for more than 20 years.

Canadian Agricultural Safety Association sets April 15 application deadline for 2011 farm safety funding 
CASA will distribute more than $300,000 for agricultural safety and health initiatives across Canada this year under the Canadian Agricultural Safety and Health Program (CASHP).  The closing date for CASHP applications is Friday, April 15, 2011. 

Canadian agriculture industry benefits from new safety training fund 
The nine recipients of the new $100,000 Farm Credit Canada (FCC) Ag Safety Fund received their cheques recently. The money will support ag safety training from BC to PEI.

PLAN.FARM.SAFETY. – Get to know Canadian farmers who use their safety plans to manage the every day safety risks of augers, tractors and ag chemicals. 
Cargill on board as a core supporter of seven Progressive Agriculture Safety Days®this year   
Cargill is partnering with CASA to cover the entire cost of training, administration, resource development and insurance for seven Canadian Safety Days in 2011 in the prairies and Ontario – an investment of almost $20,000.   
Canada FarmSafe - a national agricultural safety and health plan.  Make it yours!   
With support from ag safety professionals, researchers and producers, the Canadian Agricultural Safety Association has developed a safety plan template farmers and ranchers across Canada can use to draw up their own practical and comprehensive safety plan. The guidelines offer a straightforward procedure for incorporating safety into a farm business.  

One of CASA founders named to Order of Canada  
Jim Dosman, an M.D. and University of Saskatchewan professor deemed the "father of agricultural medicine" in Canada, was named Dec. 30 as an Officer of the Order of Canada by Governor General David Johnston.
