Hey y’all,

Happy New Year. Here are 10 things I thought were worth sharing this week:

  1. A big list of 100 things that made my year. (This is my 5th year of doing this list — hopefully it hasn’t gotten too boring.)

  2. In case you missed it, here are 20 good books I read last year

  3. I’m totally knocked out by the reissue of Saul Steinberg’s The Labyrinth. It’s an American classic.

  4. My youngest son started drawing at Christmas last year. Here’s what a year of his drawings looked like.

  5. Thousands of copyrighted works are now in the public domain.

  6. Matt Thomas on Ricky Jay.

  7. Reminder: Utopia is not a destination, it’s a direction.

  8. A friend took me to see comedian Nate Bargatze last week, and if his Netflix 1/2 hour is even 1/2 as funny, it’d be well worth watching.

  9. TV: An appreciation of Justified, one of my favorite shows of all-time. (Speaking of favorite shows, I will admit that I was a little lukewarm on this season of The Good Place, but “The Janets” episode turned that around.)

  10. RIP Bob Einstein.
Thanks for reading. If you like this newsletter and want to support it, forward it to a friend, tweet me some love, or best of all, buy a book!
