Send Hunger Packing

United Way, 742 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14209
Monday, March 28
6:00 pm - 7:30 pm

The recent Pints & Pads Happy Hour, in partnership with Planned Parenthood of Central and Western New York’s REAL Program and AmeriCorps Alums Buffalo, raised 80 boxes of pads and tampons and over $135 for personal care products to benefit Send Hunger Packing. On Monday, March 28th, volunteers are needed to pack bags of trail mix and to create personal care packages for those in need. We’d like to thank Senator Tim Kennedy, Target on Walden Ave., and BJs Wholesale Club on Sheridan for their generous donations to purchase food and personal care products for Send Hunger Packing.

In the past, we have partnered with Friends of Night People, Seneca Babcock Community Center, and Code Blue Relief Mission. For our 3rd annual Send Hunger Packing event, we will partner with Harbor House Drop-In Center, which is open 365 nights a year to provide food, supplies, and services for those in need.

Community Soup Recap

B Team volunteers were proud to assist with set-up and clean-up, as well as take part in Community Soup on Sunday, March 13th at the University Presbyterian Church. A dinner of soup, salad, bread, and dessert was provided for $5 and each diner had one vote toward the winning presentation. This session’s Soup Grant of approximately $500 went to a group from Gloria J. Parks Community Center’s Food For Thought Program to provide money for nature field trips for teen girls in the community. Community Soup funds projects by youth ages 15-25 that benefit the Buffalo community.

For more information on how youth can apply, visit http://upcbuffalo.com/Community_Soup.html. The next session will take place in fall 2016.

March Agency Spotlight - Girl Scouts

Girl Scout Volunteers make a tremendous impact on the lives of our girls - both today and in their futures.  70% of female US Senators are Girl Scout alumnae; virtually every female astronaut who flew in space was once a Girl Scout.  Wouldn't you love to influence the next great generation of girl leaders?

Girl Scouts has volunteer opportunities available throughout 9 WNY counties, including Erie and Niagara.  There are endless, flexible ways to make an impact on a girl’s life, from being a weekly troop leader, to serving as a mentor to girls, to helping at a one-time event, and everything in between. Their volunteers represent the diversity of the world we live in — that means women, men, young adults, senior citizens and people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds are volunteers.  They will work with you to design a volunteer plan that fits your schedule.  Girl Scout experience NOT required - full training provided!

Contact them at volunteer@gswny.org for more information or start the volunteer process at http://www.gswny.org/become-a-volunteer.
