DeKalb Remembrance Project

Please join the NAACP DeKalb Branch Remembrance Project, Druid Hills Group, and our office this Sunday, June 6th at 4:30 PM for a virtual ceremony honoring Mr. Porter Turner who was lynched in Druid Hills in 1945.

This Zoom event features an original film with details about Mr. Turner’s life, comments by his family and Remembrance Project supporters, and the world premiere of a new composition, “No Song Left Untold” by acclaimed Atlanta composer Dr. T. J. Anderson. With lyrics written and performed by Amy Ray (Indigo Girls), the music honors the life of Mr. Turner and other victims of racial terrorism.

The historic marker was installed on the southeast corner of Oakdale and Ponce de Leon with the support of Druid Hills Civic Association, the Olmstead Linear Park Alliance, the Atlanta City Council, St. John's Lutheran Church, and the City of Atlanta Parks and Recreation. There is no cost to participate, but please register in advance for this event at:

Solid Waste Services Resume Regular Schedule

We appreciate your patience throughout the pandemic as Solid Waste Services maintained operations at a reduced capacity. Next week should be a return to their regular schedule. There may be hiccups as they get back to full operational capacity so please continue to let us know if your collection has been missed so we can assist you. Remember, the first step toward addressing a missed collection is to file a 311 request so it's in the system. Then, our office can take the case number and work with 311 and Solid Waste Services to get your bin collected.
