The table of contents: how good is one?

Or how to stop publishing long-form content that doesn’t have a table of contents
Just when you think a table of contents can’t get complicated, things get out of hand.

Well, not really. 😅

But you do have to think about how you want the table of contents to look and function. Here’s all the ideas that are already live in action:

Simple static table of contents

Regular side contents that highlight when you reach a section

Bold chapters

Follow along on the right side

Collapsable table of contents

Opens as you scroll

Simple highlight at the start

Side contents with read time

Prioritizing design

Indicating where to look next

If you enjoyed this edition, don't forget to send it to a friend.

Until next time,

P.S.: Reply "yes" if you'd like me to resend you a case study when you haven't opened it in the future.
