Fathers and Daughters:
As we celebrate Father's Day on June 19th, let's recall the importance of Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972 which prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs receiving Federal financial assistance. Before Title IX, one in 27 girls played sports. Today that number is two in five. We recognize that fathers (and mothers) supported that change. We all know young fathers who regularly coach and practice with their daughters, and we think these activities strengthen family bonds as well as strengthening girls' confidence.
Title IX Beyond Athletics
Join us at the Greensboro City Council meeting, Tuesday, June 7, 2022 @ 5:30 PM Katie Dorsett Council Chamber, for a proclamation honoring the 50th Anniversary of Title IX. Use this link to Live Stream Council Meetings on your personal device. To commemorate the day the legislation was signed (June 23,1972), AAUW is holding a special virtual event to highlight AAUW’s important and ongoing work on Title IX and to recognize our generous supporters and affiliates. Register now for the virtual celebration on Thursday, June 23, at 4:30 p.m. ET.

IT for Girls Camp June 13-17 - teen volunteers making a difference
Teen volunteers will be helping with the AAUW IT For Girls Camp at UNCG June 13 to 17th. This year, the camp features five UNCG degree programs with strong technology components. Each day, UNCG faculty will introduce campers and volunteers to college computer labs. Pop Tech Music, Fashion, Animation, Technical Theatre, and Archaeology degrees provide pre-professional experiences from music production to ground penetrating radar. Students will enjoy lunch in the college cafeteria and end their week at the Weatherspoon Art Museum with pizza in the courtyard. This camp is sure to please both the curious and the creative.

Nine of thirteen volunteers attended the May 28th walk through as part of their training in preparation to be near peer mentors and assistants at the one-week day-camp June 13 to 17.
