Double Direct Voting for Regional Representation
The staff report provided Council with information on potential double direct
representation of Councillors on City and Regional Council. Council voted to have the Clerk contact the Region of Niagara to petition the Province of Ontario to move forward with double direct representation in Niagara Falls, and to share our initiative with the other municipalities in Niagara in the event they would like to do the same.

Investment Policy
City Council adopted a new Investment Policy for the City of Niagara Falls at Tuesday's meeting. Council added a requirement that the Treasurer provide the annual investment statement to the City’s external auditors as part of the annual audit.

Planning for a Potential Resurgence
As part of the City’s COVID response, Fire Chief Jim Boutelier provided an update on how staff is planning for a resurgence of the virus. The public is reminded to follow the direction of Niagara Region Public Health and adhere to the Provincial Orders in place.

Niagara Falls Transit Offering Seniors Free Rides to Flu Clinic
This Fall, residents are able to take advantage of a Drive Thru Community Flu Clinic in the Gale Centre parking lot. Participants must wear a mask, and wear a loose-fitting top. For those without access to a vehicle, a walk up option will be available. Niagara Falls Transit will be offering seniors free rides to the Gale Centre on the flu clinic days:
  • October 27, 2020, 9 AM to 4 PM
  • October 29, 2020, 9 AM to 4 PM
  • November 3, 2020, 9 AM to 4 PM
  • November 5, 2020, 9 AM to 4 PM
  • November 7, 2020, 9 AM to 1 PM    
  • November 10, 2020, 9 AM to 4 PM
  • November 12, 2020, 9 AM to 4 PM
  • November 14, 2020, 9 AM to 1 PM

Niagara Region garbage truck
Garbage Collection Changes Starting October 19
Every-other-week garbage collection starts October 19 in the Niagara Region. Based on the new bi-weekly schedule, Niagara Falls residents and businesses will not have their garbage collected until the week of October 26. Blue/Grey Boxes, Green Bins and leaf and yard waste will continue to be collected weekly. For more information on the changes, visit niagararegion.ca/waste.

This Thanksgiving weekend, the Ontario Government is asking residents to spend the holiday with their household, sitting down to dinner with only the people you live with. As numbers continue to climb, Ontarians need to be extra vigilant, reduce close contact, limit the time spent with people outside their household to help flatten the second wave. Those who live alone are able to pair up with one other household.

At the request of Ron Charbonneau, from the Downtown BIA, the City of Niagara Falls will recognize and celebrate the year 2020 as the 50th Anniversary of the creation of the Business Improvement Areas in the Province of Ontario. Niagara Falls BIAs continue to be central hubs for community, festivals and celebrations, full of vibrance and resilience.
